1956 30hp idle circuit

1956 30hp evinrude: starts and runs at high throttle, slow the throttle down and u get lean pops and stall. all new seals and rebuilt carb except the float it looked good. it seems to be a timing issue but im not sure. any suggestions?

thank you for the reply so fast, we tried that and it still dies out. i called it a lean pop and maybe its not a lean pop . im new at this old motor thing, its almost like a small backfire then it stalls. i have a friend that knows motors and he is stumped too. we took the carb appart to double check and it SEEMS fine.

check flywheel key could be sheared and throwing timing off. follow flywheel directions here. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=268046

Have you even looked at the ignition system? Those motors all have bad coils unless they have already been replaced.

Check the ignition and flywheel key as suggested. What is the compression like? Actual numbers please.
