I have a question regarding the gasket/O rings used with the gear lube drain screw in Mercruiser lower units. Is there a standard size for mercury or does Bravo, Alpha, older models drives and mercury outboards each have a different gasket? Thank you.

All the GASKETS are the same size.

There are some drain plugs that use a O-rings, not recomended to interchange gaskets for O-rings and vise versa.

Re: Lower unit drain screw question

Mercruiser has 2 types of drain plugs. The gasket surface on one is flat and uses the paper/fiber gasket. The other one has a groove in it where the oring sets.
So it all depends on which type plugs you have, they are not interchangable and have seen both types on the same drive. The screwdriver slot gets damaged and they get replaced. So be sure to use the correct gasket for the plug.
