1955 evinrude 15 hp fastwin

Just got a new to me boat with a very nicely restored 1955 evinrude fastwin 15 hp. When towing it home it was bouncing around a lot and I didn't care for that at all. First thing I thought of was a transom saver which I plan to install. My question is about the trimming on this model. I am new to outboards there is a latch on the back side which has 4 slots it can be in to set the angle of the prop. On the front of the motor there is a lever that has a lock position and a release position. When in release I can raise the motor up very high but it won't stay there. Is that the lever I pull for towing with the transom saver stick?

So when I put lever in release and pull motor up it is supposed to stay?

Is that when I would put transom saver on? Hate to ask stupid questions but stupid mistakes ruined my last boat

Tighten the pivot pin nut until the motor stays up when tilted. Tilt it high enough to install the transom saver. Then tilt it back down until the motor is secure against the transom saver.

If you are referring to the Lock-Release in this image, it is not to lock the motor tilted up, but rather in the Down Position

thank you all for the reply and confirmation. I don't want to screw the boat up. jimmbo could I ask if you have the rest of that manual or a link to where you found it

Those were a couple of Pages from a 1957 35hp Owners Manual that I acquired in 1974
