I have been doing a lot of searching and have found a decent amount of info on it. I just have two questions(will attach pics) the first is what is this bracket looking thing that comes off the carb and how does it attach? cant seem to find a good pic or diagram. second question is what do I need to be able to attach my throttle cable to it so I dont have to use the tiller handle?

The bar thing is a starter lockout for when throttle is advanced. This is an example and might not be exactly like yours.

@hardwater fisherman that looks identical makes sense why I couldnt figure out how it attaches because my pullstart isnt attached right now. wish my engine cover was hinged like that. mine is screwed on.

also may be a stupid question but do the bearings in the lower unit on each end of the prop shaft get packed at all with grease or does the gearcase fluid take care of that? only reason im asking is usually those types of bearings get greased

As far as I know there is no grease used in the lower unit.

The throttle cable attaches to the knob sticking up from the gear in your second photo.. You need the bracket that is forward of the gear. Once again these are just examples and may not be exact to your motor..

It helps that's for sure. Gonna do more digging tomorrow. I cleaned the drive and put all the new gears and bearings in this evening. Hoping to have it completed and ready to fire by the weekend as long as I don't need any parts lol. 🤞

@hardwater fisherman looks like it hooks up the exact smae as my 89 johnson so I have everything I need to hook up my cables!

I just need to find exploded views with part numbers for the exhaust housing area and the engine itself.

how do I know if its a 6v or 12v system. Im getting ready to try and fire it up this weekend and would rather not burn things up. mainly the choke solenoid

A 6 volt system would have Battery Cables that almost look like they belong on a Bulldozer, while the ones on a 12 volt system are smaller

That's a great link. Thank you so much.

@jimmbo the cables are not that big. Let me get home and take some pics. I think now that you said that and I'm thinking about it. They definitely aren't thick and the starter may be 12 v

@jimmbo the cables definitely don't look like they would be for a tractor. Let me get some pics and post them

I found in an old service manual that prior to 1957 the system was 6 volts

It appears to be the " cut out switch "-----Cuts spark to one cylinder in high vacuum situations.

@jimmbo @racerone I appreciate all the info this is helping me tremendously. After reading the link that was posted and finding some more I believe i have got the right parts to be able to run 12v on this system. I am searching for a 12v choke solenoid but they seem to be expensive.
