the filter should have been soldered to the valve body you can resolder it of make a new one with fine brass mesh or... leave it out after cleaning the tank completely........ and install a substitute such as a round button filter between the valve and the carb inlet . they work fine on lawn tractors so should be ok on a small JW fuel flow wise

​filter or no filter the motor should run anyway. filtering is just a necessity when dirt is present....

Without the tank filter, any debris in the tank will clog the shut-off valve and strand you. Ask me how I know!

thank you crosbyman,thank you lindy 46. I think ,i'm ok now.got a filter made of 80 mesh brass screen in now will solder the almost new filter to the connector after cleaning it. tried to put an in-line filter in. was told,could not be done,fuel line too short. lindy 46, the filter in my 63 evinrude works just fine thank you very much for all your help. could not have it without your help,thank you,again!!
