Almost started, then i could barely pull the rope. Turns out the woodruff key sheared off. Took it apart an as i put it back together, i broke the armature plate mounting ring. Anyone use a good source to get parts for the old guy?
Marine engine says the part number is 580168, but it keeps referencing the armature plate ,not the ring.

Would you think it's the same part number through all those years ?

that plate only serves to hold down the mag plate itself . a few spot welds should fix it up finished with polishing the weld joints. not much stress on those
and yes that part is the same for years becasue the mag plates and the ignition system was used from the early 50s to early 70s.

if need be if thethreads get mess up at the wrld joint you can retap and use a helicoil

check in with the folks at AOMCI classifieds tons of deads motors around or vintageoutboard.com may have them

Both those pics show a key way slot in them, mine doesn't have that.
