Sounds like a great project Sam! I was lucky enough have someone get my '76 Mercury 402 started a while back and it sounded great, he said it was in great shape, sounds like yours is also, good luck!

Careful pal .... that has " Jet prop Exhaust!" ehehe

Yeah that should be good for another 1/2 mph ... The water intake is in the trim tab on this thing ..
Never seen that set up before .. Looking through the brochure I noticed that the guy also has the Ride Glide steering wheel on his Orlando Clipper .. Its the smaller round looking one .. I asked him to let me know if the steering system doesn't work on his newer motor to let me know and I'll take it off his hands .. I actually thought it was an OC wheel until I just saw it on the brochure ...

Been searching for parts for the merc .. Found the lower mount cover that was toast . New old stock in SC .. 21 bucks shipped . i can also get the rubber mounts .. 67 bucks a piece ! Got a local marina that said he should have all the seals for the lower unit .. I may just take it to him and let him replace everything and test it .. The owner of the place seamed really knowledgeable on the old Mercs . He said he has the 50 hp version of mine hanging on his wall ..
I am kinda torn on the paint im gunna use .. Not sure if I want to go with the original Cloud White or more of a pure bright white ... Leaning toward keeping original ...

Sam - The white Mercs are very rare these days. Keep the original Cloud White. Cloud White or Phantom Black, old Mercs are always classy!

Yes, I'm biased. :D

I just redid a '56 Johnson that my son gave me for my birthday. Rustoleum matched both colors at about 90%. Only a true aficionado would know the difference. You may need to google the color on EBay, since Wallyworld may not carry that particular code number.

That said, Rustoleum is real good paint, but the stuff that you can get at North York Marine in Ontario is simply the best. if you run the boat in the water for awhile you'll see the difference.

But you get what you pay for. $5 a can vs. $20. Then again, 3 or 4 cans really is not significant.

I got the paint for the speeditwin at Reprotint .. I think I want to use the single stage urethane paint I have been getting from PPG .. I just need a good sample to match up . This motor has been painted before so not sure if its the actual Cloud White or not ...

I am with GA on keeping it the original Merc colors....but I am biased also! I would lean towards the white, even though the phantom black. My local automotive paint place came up with the phantom black code. I have used catalyzed urethane on both of mine and it holds up great. I'm sure whatever route you go it will look great, you always do excellent work!
