1948 hd25

Trying to get my other little motor running. I honed the cylinders and got 75lbs. on both cylinders. Test ran it, would not idle and was running hot. It has a new impeller and pin. So I dropped the LU and it was full of gas. The carb is spotless. Any ideas as too what is causing this?

Gas in the gearcase I can only think perhaps the carb is flooding, as it sits around with the shutoff turned on,and gas is getting in the crank case and leaking out the bottom crank seal down the leg and some how into the gearcase.

Kinda what I was thinking, but the petcock was off. Guess I will blow it apart and check the cork float. Maybe it was flooding while running and dumping gas.
