17' Bowrider

I'm looking to replace a 20' bowrider and would like to downsize a little to fit better for winter storage and also require a cheaper lift. (old lift went with old lakehouse). Outside of the more cramped quarters, is there a great difference in ride quality in a 17" bowrider, compared to a slightly larger 18' or 19'. This will be used exclusively for SKiing and Tubing, as we have a pontoon for booze cruises and putting around the lake. Saw a 17' Four Winns with a 4.3L engine that I like but wondering if it will be a rough ride.

17 with a 4.3 would be a pretty quick boat. I have an 18.5ft Larson and a buddy had a 17, there is a difference in ride and how it handles waves. Also, sitting in the back seat of mine, you stay dry, in his, you get some spray.

A 17 footer with a sterndrive will be pretty heavy on your lift (V6 motor + outdrive is 1100#), and the boat will be pretty cramped. How about an OB model? The ride on the lake should be fine, either way

What are your needs. If you don't need a big boat but you want a good ride than I'd say hull design is every bit as important as a 1 or 2 foot difference in size. I'd also guess that it would be hard to get a 17' boat that will give the same ride as the 20' boat you are leaving behind.

I guess I have no real answer here for you other than to say you should test drive some boats in your new size range and see what feels right for you.

if you want a second boat just for skiing, etc. I'd look at something besides a bow rider. For one thing, something maintenance-free so you can use it and forget it.
