Well now thats a different story with the additional photos. I think it looks like a keeper to me the only thing to put it in the water looks like, install the seats. The boat looks complete rails, body good , and such. If you decide you want it and the trailer you can leave it at my place for a few days till you get the trailer worked out however the photo looks like the loose link might just well be the trailer. Could just be dirty but if you have a trailer I would put it on your own and save the difference. Have him run the motor before you buy to your satisfaction. if good looks like a very good deal. I am only 82 miles from Surry as I have my Dental work done there. So a quick trip down if you need to park the boat so you can clear the border.

I agree.

When I was shopping for mine, I had 4 requirements:
A. Not be missing any hard-to-find-parts
B. Running non-obsolete motor
C. Have a nice trailer
D. Be really cheap.

It needed to have at least 2 of the 4 for consideration :) The one you're looking at probably has A covered and hopefully B.

I REALLY lucked out with mine and basically got all 4. I got such a good deal on it that I didn't even test the motor until I got it home. Good luck!

There is a 16 ft S/S in Lincoln City Oregon not to far from where you are going, it used to be the Sherrifs boat. Photos on craigslist with trailer and a 50 hp Johnson I would sure check out if I were you. (Craigslist Oregon coast ..on list go to craigslist then top of list to bring up the states then Oregon then oregon coast ) just says aluminum boat hull its in LONCOLN CITY I would grab this in a heart beat if I needed a good fixable boat. I can see this cleaned up as a really great find. If the motor ran a few years ago and has a cover on it no reason for it not to run now.

I paid $1800 for mine, guy was asking $2300. I will say, that is a nice looking boat. I love my 1976 16' SS. Its a great boat. I'd say $1500 is a good price. Yea, the trailer is rusted, but the boat is pretty nice. Trailers are easy to wire wheel, rust convert and paint.

El Toro !! The 1978 16 ft S/S I told you about in Lincoln City Oregon. ?? Had to do it. I bought it . To good to pass up I think. Had to look past the cleaning up and decided it was fairly nice. Will take some work. Now I have to drive to Central Oregon this month and get it. The Gentelman will get it ready to travel . It is about 300 Mile each way or more. The worst part is the paint but thats a easy fix. Ill post a photo as soon as I figure again how to access my Photo Bucket to post them. $ 800 for the boat - 50 hp Johnson that runs well (well see ) and trailer. I can always resell it fo that much if I have to,.

Hahaha!! That's too funny! You just couldn't help yourself could you? Well congratulations! I looked at that ad after you mentioned it and I don't think you can go wrong at that price. I'm glad you got it. You're officially a Starcraft junkie!
And hey, thanks so much for the offer to leave the boat at your place if I needed to. But I think I would probably just bring my own trailer down to make it easier at the border. I'm actually starting to second guess myself on driving that distance, It's 4.5 hours and probably 2 tanks of gas... I don't know, I'm giving myself another day to decide.

Re: 16' SS ad on CL - is this a fair price?

My wife of 50 years said thats one ugly boat . But cosmetic things are easly fixed. My 22 looked almost new when I bought it. It was also a 400 mile drive but you cannot get a decent buy locally. Hell its only a few dollars and a day drive but I will probably stay the night in a motel and back the next day. depends on if the boat is road ready or not . I will take lots of tools and wireing for lights even will be able to change it all if needed. Good hunting and I will be anxious to have 2 Starcrafts LOL I think the seats look good as the boat was covered. No top but a Bimini will do nicely.

If you can afford it realize how complete of a boat you would have for a fraction of the cost of a ready made one. Plus you will know whats in it. YES I have a 8-10 drive ahead of me but will pick it up around the 23rd as he wants to prep it for the road trip. and lives in Corvalis .he has the boat at his summer place and will be there the week of March 21-27th. that works well for me also. Good hunting

Re: 16' SS ad on CL - is this a fair price?

Well I did it! I took the insanely long drive down washington state to grab that old beater supersport. I must be nuts?!!

Anyway it checked out quite well... the motor has great compression in all cylinders, the controls work freely, and so does the steering. There is a new floor installed only a few weeks ago and there didn't appear to be any leaky rivets.

We agreed on 11 dead prezy's without the rusty trailer. I picked one up here in good shape for $160. Anyway When I get some pictures I'll post them in a new thread.

Thanks everybody for your helpful advice.

Congrats to Puget and El Toro! Two more Tinnies that will live on and turn heads.:) And both of you worried about gas money:confused: What ya gonna do, put electric motors on your boats? My bet is you can't wait to burn gas in those boats:D Here is to you guys, hope you don't have to do much to float them, and for Gods sake, don't forget the pics! Dale

Re: 16' SS ad on CL - is this a fair price?

We could make it a threesome, I made the mistake of sending my brother photos of our SS and now he has the bug. As I mentioned earlier in this thread he is looking at an 18 foot SS in Minnesota, 2011 km from were he lives. They are leaving Saturday morning right after they finnish work (night shift) to pick it up. Will post some pic when he stops by on the way home.
