I have a 2001 Cape Craft 16' with a 50HP Mercury. It runs great but just before plane and somewhat at plane, it lists bad to port. It is very hard to steer to starboard. I am looking a putting on the auto trim tabs. Is there something else I need to check? Raise the motor? There is also a hydrofoil on the motor. Thanks for the help.

It is sitting properly on the transom? Not off level or out of center? How's the skeg? And maybe foil ... any bends in 'em?

Welcome aboard.

Your "engine"trim tab is not properly adjusted. Move the trailing end slightly to stbd and try again. Then move it again until you get steering neutral at your usual boat speed and trim. Its a trial and error procedure.

Auto trim tabs won't solve your problem; their benefit is for planing speed and attitude. Since you already have a hydrofoil, you don't need the tabs.

This^^^. Start by adjusting the trim tab.
