I have a 2000 Johnson ocean pro that is overheating. When I winterized it, I flushed the motor w/fresh water and lots of sand came out. Could that have fixed the problem?
Normally sand will rip up the waterpump impeller. I would consider installing a new impeller. They are inexpensive and a normal maintenance item. When was the last time it was changed?
