My trim indicator moves from full down to full up way before it should. I have a new guage so I think it is ok.....Can I clean the transducer? I bet it is pretty costly to replace it.....Any ideas will be appreciated.....Thanks!

Re: 140 Johnson Trim Question

Helps to know the year/model of your engine....there are a couple of trim senders, based on year. They are basically a sealed unit and they do go bad with age. I'd probably try moving the sender arm slowly by hand to determine if there is a bad spot in the rheostat wire itself inside the sender. If it is in fact bad-replace it.

Re: 140 Johnson Trim Question

I have a 1977 140hp Johnson....Thank you for your response...I have moved the sender arm by hand and it moves the trim guage needle way to fast. Sounds like the sender is bad..Any advice on the be$t place to buy one is appreciated....

Re: 140 Johnson Trim Question

The trim gauge only indicates the 15 degrees of movement within the trim range, not the whole tilt range.

unless you can not see the motor, i would just do away with the trim guage, put a clock in the guages hole.
