A friend gave me an older Minn Kota trolling motor that has 14 lbs. of thrust. The motor is in good condition and works but before spending money on the battery, I would like to know if the low lbs of thrust rating would even move the Intex Mariner 4 inflatable boat I have.

I have read that you need at least 2 lbs of thrust for each 100 lbs of boat weight. My rough calculations show that the boat with passengers and equipment is around 650 lbs so theoretically the 14 lbs of thrust motor would work. I am just hoping that a members here on the forum could provide some insight if they are running similar setup.

It's enough to simulate ONE single person paddling

It's not enough if you want to go faster than that.

If you want a cheap battery go to a scrapyard.

If you want a good battery build a lithium battery pack.
