120 hp mercrsruiser oil question

im going to do an oil change soon and it calls for quicksilver 4r. i was gonna get that when i do the oil change. 30 wt more than likely. the motors a 73 so it burns oil a lil but really not bad at all considering. i have 5 gallons of 30 wt low ash oil. may grandpa gave it to me he is a farmer and seys its the best oil out there the brand is case i believe. would it hurt the motor if i used a lil bit of that in leu of the quicksilver till i get a new oil filter and change it?

won't hurt it.
30 wt is what went in your engine from the factory when it was new.

dunno about low ash... I think you'd have to go to a 3rd world country to buy high ash oil.... that might have been a relevant spec in your grampas heyday

yea its tractor oil but ive run it in my cars before i just know its expensive stuff
