12 volts dc on my kill(stop) wire when the key is off?

Ok i have been trouble shooting my 1995 70hp evinrude ignition system
according to cdi electronics i should have no more then 2 volts dc on this wire with the key on or off

with key on 0 volts
with key off 12 volts

cdi says any higher then 2 volts with key on or off will destory the pack


can anyone tell me why there would be voltage with the key off

Are you checking the wire at the power pack?

yes wires at the pak plugs

and just changed control boxes and same reading 12 volts with key off 0 volts with key on

I would disconnect the wire at the switch and recheck it, maybe you have a short to voltage somewhere in the harness.

on top of this my stator reads
brown pair 395 ohms
orange pair 800 ohms

according to my service manual

400 is for 6 amp charging system
800 is for 12 amp charging system

i did change control boxes to a new one with its own harnes

this did not ocurr to me till just know i cant use the battery positive as a referance for voltage i need to check the positive at the switch
