keepNitreel I found the site allready, thanks...sounds like a great product from the read. It is a polyurethane, one part...no hardner. I'll be interested in hearing about how your application works. I am going to go ahead and try this garage floor paint, it's allready bought and nothing a grinder can't fix if it doesn't work. :p

I've heard a lot of people who have used the garage floor and are happy with it. If it would have had the same grip without the flakes, I too would use it.

1. House paint is designed to chalk slightly, its one of the ways it stays clean.

2. The single part epoxy paints are not true epoxies, they do use the name though.

3. True epoxies are rarely used in areas where UV rays will be an issue. The reason is there's no affordable way to prevent UV damage unless another type of product is used over them.

4. Aside from a couple of recent posts here discussing it, I don't know of anyone using garage floor epoxy for any exposed area on the inside of their boat. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm sure it does, is it the correct use for this type of product....no.

5. How many two part true epoxy automotive paints are there (not primers)?

6. Epoxy is the worst of all the coatings listed when it comes to holding up to UV exposure.

ondarvr, now that you say that, I must of confused the garage floor epoxy with the truck bedliner. Anyway, I still plan on using Pettit easypoxy topside with Pettit skidless compound 9900 for my deck.

Re: 12' Sears Gamefisher resto

I'll keep you guys posted on the paint, but i'm not quite to that point yet anyway. Today I recieved my plastic float i've been waiting for, the old one was cork in the '57 Seahorse and I believed to be the culprit in the flooding problem the last time out. I had a new rebuild kit minus the float waiting with it, so I took it all apart, cleaned every little passage and put together with new float, needle, seat, and gaskets. I had also been having a problem with the tiller handle gear not meshing tight enough with the mating gear that drives the throttle/armature, so I had to get that apart and shim up one gear to tighten the mesh. Before when i'd try and give it full throttle the gears would slip on the handle and i'd be stuck at an idle...now it's rock solid, can't force it to jump. I'll try and get back to glassing tomorrow, it's been a little distractive around here with a new born niece in the house. :)

As if I wasn't distracted enough, my brother and I brought home a 16' Hobie Cat today. Couldn't pass it up, cheap as dirt, covered in it too. Sails were kept inside and hardly used, gel coat looks nice under the dirt, but I do have some minor repairs to do to a few spots on the keel. Looks like i'm not missing any major hardware, and it's sitting on a nice little galvanized trailer. Been reading up on sailing all day, alot to learn and i'm loving it. So yeah, hopefully i get some glass work done on the Gamefisher instead of messing around with the new boat all day. :D

Call this a late thought or an after thought...... are the water passages open under the seats to allow water to drain to the stern?

I went ahead and sealed up the very front seat, there's not much in front of it to collect water...on the other two seats I ran a piece of PVC through so that my foam would not be in contact with the drainage water. Thanks for watching out for me though, i'm sure to miss something before i'm done. :D

Here's a peek at the catamaran, it's got a couple of bad spots on one keel, but nothing compared to the glass work i've been doing on the Gamefisher.

Re: 12' Sears Gamefisher resto

Hey,
Someone else is rebuilding a 12' Gamefisher here in San Diego!!! I just picked it up from a friend who had it sitting in his yard for about 10years.
I think the first thing I'm going to do is add 1" plywood to the inside transom to beef it up for a 15 HP. I'm also going to add a few layers of glass to the bottom outside. I'm going to use it in Baja for a sport about to go to the estuary, points and local islands for fishing. Throw it on top of the truck rack and use in all over Baja. My other boat is a 23' center cosole Panga. Alot more involved to travel with. My biggest concern is that this holds up to the swells. I like the lines on her. It just needs beefing up the hull.....should be fun project. Just what I need.....another project....fooooooool !!!
I'll send pictures later.

How's the gamefisher going Chris? You haven't put it aside to work on the catamaran have you?

Re: 12' Sears Gamefisher resto

I've been juggling projects for sure, but I have gotten alot of sanding done in preperation for the last session of glass...I hope, lol. Seems like every time I get close to getting done, I decide to beef it up a little more. My Johnson 18hp outboard is running great, I have all the bugs worked out of that. But the cat is dissasembled now also and in the middle of some glass work of it's own, it'll most likely be up for sale once its' done to make room for another project ;). My goal is to have her painted for next weekend, I'll save the pics for then.

Hey there, Ondarvr, forwarded the link of your 12' Sears Gamefisher resto. I too am working on a boat very similar to yours. I'm still working on the outer hull (when the weather co-operates). Been raining the last couple of days so I ain't had a chance to get out there n finsih sanding the fiberglass itself to get it ready to glass. Wonder if you wouldn't mind skimming thru my thread and let me know what you think of my resto so far, (nothing better than hearing from someone that's workin' on the same boat, eh? Your boat is looking great and I have saved this thread so as to follow along. Your boat (btw) is definately in better shape than mine and I'll be thrilled if I can get mine to be half as 'pretty' as yers. Cheers!

Re: 12' Sears Gamefisher resto

Finally got some work done on the Gamefisher, my brother and I installed a huge window unit A/C good for up to 1500 sq. ft. room in the garage yesterday. The garage is insulated with double pane glass and even insulated rollup doors...but didn't have any vents for air. We had it holding 70 degrees all day today, with a 110 heat index outside. So I got busy in the cool garage and glassed everything else I needed to glass before paint, which included the perimeter of the middle seat and along the creases in the floor. When that was dry I gave it a good wash on the inside, let dry, and painted it with the garage floor epoxy. It worked out good, and I put on as much as I wanted with about 1/3 of a gallon left over. Now I will let it dry for a couple of days, splatter paint over the grey with red and white, then flip and paint the outside of the hull.

Waiting on paint to dry again. I splattered it with red and white rustoleum, I love the look and it sure does hide alot of flaws. Once this dries I can get the bottom done white, going to use rustoleum primer, then the white paint, then put a red stripe just under the gunnel rail.

I also decided to steal the trailer from the catamaran project, I'm going to re-bunk this to fit the jon boat...much more fitting than what I was using before.
