110 to 140 engine upgrade exhaust hose issue

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I am working on getting a 1966 18 holiday in the water. The original 110 motor is locked up and I had a 1973 140hp that I would like to test on the boat. I removed the 110 and installed the 140 and ran it for a few moments with the water on the lower unit. No water made it to the motor but the outdrive shifted and idled normally. I will fix the water pump tomorrow. The problem keeping me from testing the boat on the water is the 140 exhaust elbow is to high for the 110 exhaust hose. In fact the 110 has a double clamp at the inside of the transom while the 140 has a bolted plate so I can't just switch the exhaust hoses. The 110 tube is about 3 inches too short. Any suggestions on how to remedy the situation? I have thought about going to a muffler shop and having them shape a tube.

Hi-Temp Silicone hose. I'm using it on my boat...works great and easy to cut/fit with nothing more than a knife. Designed to handle 500deg heat...the water cooled exhaust gets nowhere near that. The highest reading I think I've taken was around 150 or so.

You also need to check the water pump and impeller in the drive to find out why you aren't getting water to the engine.

Ayuh,... Be careful with That,... It'll sink the boat, when it rusts through...

Oshkosh - do you know of a good source for the silicone hose? The current hose in the 110 transom is formed with a 90 degree bend and then an additional bend to port before it travels up to meet the exhaust manifold... so the new hose can form both curves?

Don - I think the hose from the transom to the motor is clogged, will check it tomorrow. I tried it yesterday and met much resistance with the lower unit off the outdrive.

Bond-O I agree...maybe they have stainless that can be formed.

I actually had to make a very tight 90 using two 45's and a SS joiner.
