10mm fuel hose or 3/8"? 1995 Tracker ProV17 90 HP Mariner 2 stroke

I've run into something odd. The fuel pickup hose from gas tank to where it connects under the splash well is apparently 10mm hose. It's very close to 3/8. I'm installing a water fuel separator that has 3/8 fittings. The 10mm seems to fit OK just a bit larger than 3/8 but it still grabs the barbs. Have any of you run into this? Does 10mm work OK with 3/8 ?

Well….3/8” (0.375”) hose is a equivalent to 9.5mm (0.374”) metric.

A 10 mm (0.394”) hose is a total mismatch which is never a good thing over time.

You could do one of three things:
1. Use what you have and hope for the best.

2. Swap out the fitting….3/8” to 10mm

3. Swap out the 10mm hose for the proper 3/8” fuel hose.

Personally, I would opt to switch out the hose for a standard (3/8” or 9.5 mm) size hose

Having said that, are you sure it’s 10 mm hose?

A 90HP motor will run fine on 5/16 fuel line, so the diameter is not the issue. You do want the fuel line to match the fittings.

I measured it with my calipers both the ID of the hose as well as the fitting at the tank. I think the best thing is to convert to 3/8. Was hoping someone had done and could tell me if it works.

Did you measure at the end of the hose that was stretched over the fitting?

Or did you trim it back an inch to fresh hose that hasn't been stretched?

Guilty! It was actually labeled to be 3/8" hose (when I got the whole thing out) but it was a looser fit (and still measured larger) than my other 3/8 hose even after the stretched part. However, the part that really threw me was that the barb diameter measured 10mm and was in fact larger than my other 3/8 fittings by .5mm. Furthermore, the barb was cross threaded into the pickup tube, making me think that some wise guy somehow jammed a metric fitting into the tube. I wound up replacing the pickup tube, hose and barbs. All 3/8 and I have a water/fuel separator on there now.

Just one question: I had the old A-1 line. Is that acceptable under regulations or must we now use A1-15?
