So you guys who have read my posts know I have a running 89 Regal with a 4.3L v6.

I found a 2005 bayliner 175 with a cracked block for almost nothing. Now could I do a direct swap to the 05 with my 89 motor? Reason I am considering it is because this boat is much cheaper than replacing the floor in my Regal (and trust me it needs it)

Hit me with whats required.

Also anyone know the structure of the 05 175? it looks to be almost entirely fiberglass... I have not had a chance to see it in person yet.

well the bayliner is a 4 cyl 3.0L with alpha I suppose its just a matter of room and motor mount relocation?

If you're talking about swapping EVERYTHING (engine, drive, transom plates, instruments and harness) then all you'll need to do is drill two new hole at the top of the transom cutout, and glass in a couple of side mounts to take the V engine.... And widen the engine cover (dog-box)... Yeah, real easy...

Are you sure about the doghouse? I'm pretty sure that bayliners use the same doghouse no matter what engine they use. Although that would be the smallest part of the conversion.

They may have, yes. I guess the thing to do is measure it....

I went and looked at the boat yesterday. The floor is solid everywhere, seats are a little ruff but other than that it looks like a great boat.

What kind of power would I expect from the 3.0 if I got another block for it? Also what other block is compatible with that motor like years and makes? Its a chevy block right?

Ayuh,.... 'bout 140 hp,....

The 2.5l, 'n 3.0l Boat motors,... Neither were used in automobiles,...

no wonder I cant find a block for a decent price.

What about a larger 4 cyl? there is a 3.7 or something around that right?

You don't want that...

Look around, 3.0L are one of the most common boat engines available. 3.0L is plenty for a 175, I've got one in my 195 and for everything except slalom starts it is fine.

So which is it. Either it was used in automobiles or it wasn't..

The 3.0 liter is a stroked 2.5 that was available in the 1962 Chevrolet compact cars such as the Chevy ii
Ayuh,.... Not to be confused with the 2.5l GM corporate motor, the Iron Duke, a Pontiac design, used in cars, 'n trucks,.....

Ayuh,.... Not alota 1962 Chevy IIs left 'round is there,..??

They went to the Corporate motor, also a 2.5l, a short time after that,...

Can't you just pick up a 3.0 block and swap everything? Those aren't expensive.

Nova was available with the 2.5L from 1962-1970 and in the later years actually had to be ordered as a 6cyl was standard... But after 1990 the crankshafts changed so that's a totally moot point for a 1990+ boat motor.

but there was no V6 offering in the 175 so measuring needed.

21gal fuel tank would probably stop the V6 idea for me.

I swapped a V6 into my 1851 Bayliner replacing a 3.0 but it has a 30 gal gas tank.

My old Grew 175 has a 19 gal tank and a V6 and it's really dumb. You are watching that fuel gauge like mad. not much range.

Didn't they put them in there in 2005, because you can definitely get a 4.3L in some 20?? 175's

hmmm... maybe... I can find info on a 2006 with a 4.3, but boat tests and spec sheets of the 2005 all show the 3.0 only.

Here's what you said "The 2.5l, 'n 3.0l Boat motors,... Neither were used in automobiles,..."

My comment was that in fact, they were used in automobiles according to a post by you last week, not that they were currently available.

At any rate, OP, there are a ton of used 3.0 liter engines around as they are one of the most common i/o motors out there.
