21gal fuel tank would probably stop the V6 idea for me.

I swapped a V6 into my 1851 Bayliner replacing a 3.0 but it has a 30 gal gas tank.

My old Grew 175 has a 19 gal tank and a V6 and it's really dumb. You are watching that fuel gauge like mad. not much range.

I wonder about that. I'd bet a v6 will get nearly as decent of fuel economy out of that hard working 3.0. Plus, I see a good number of v6 boats have smallish tanks already. I do like the 33gallon tank in my 18 footer however especially when I spend time on bigger water.

Why do people think a bigger engine will use more fuel? Especially a modern engine vs an 'old tech' engine...

I agree, if you hammer the big engine, sure gunna use more; but if you drive the boat the same way with the bigger engine as you did with the small one, you actually use less fuel.

Even in my boat (see below) at cruising speeds, I use about 1.3 litres per nautical mile. That would give a 21 US gallon tank a range of about 70 miles. His 175 is about half the weight of my boat, so I would expect a range of about 100 miles from that tank....

Chris.....
(I have a 40 UK gallon tank, 47 US gallons... :D)

I put the V6 engine in to burn more gas (and therefore go faster).
On a slow cruise, the V6 consumption is the same as with the 4 banger, but I would not have swapped motors if that was the style of boating I was doing.

My Grew went from a top speed of 39 mph to 53 mph.

My point precisely....

$200? Wow, that would have been a steal even if you bought a brand new short block for it.
