04 115 stator replacement

Hey guys quick question, I have a 04 Merc 115 4stroke, this is the generation with the yammi power head. I need to replace the stator, if I want to just pull the flywheel to get at the stator, do I have to get all the timing marks set like I was changing the timing belt? Or can I just pull the flywheel. Thanks

I would get it into a place that you know the timing will be correct when you put it back together, and make sure nothing moves while you have it apart

Yeah I was going to do the zip tie method on the two rear driven gears. A guy on the hull truth did it that way.
