03 mercury 50hp 2stroke loss thrust

24 foot pontoon motor is running great lost thrust on the lake went from 19 mph to 6mph motor will rev but the thrust is limited, motor will rev but not go faster.
When motor is off and in Forward the propeller we will turn clockwise with a clicking sound ,but will not turn counterclockwise. Any help ? Thanks

The clicking is normal.----Nothing wrong there.---Check for spark on all leads.-----Do a compression test for reference.----Install another prop and test run.

Thanks for the response ,, let me ask this question when I put it in reverse ( motor not running ) the propeller will not rotate clockwise or counter clockwise
Could it be the rubber thrush bushing and the propeller ?

Thanks for the reply, one added note the motor itself is running great just something in the foot or propeller

Propeller hub would be suspect for me perhaps. Have you hit the bottom at all ? The clicking is normal though.
Typical signs of a sacrificed hub are that the motor will run and propel at very slow speeds, but not anything more. Just to get you home

Basically that is kinda what happened I didn’t hit anything but there was debris in the water from rain storms( pieces of wood ) I thought the motor was cavitating but that’s not what it was. I could give it throttle but it would only go about 6 miles an hour so I’m headed for the landing it get me home ,,but slowly

The Forward gear operation is like a saw blade....vertical in one direction and sloped in the other. The vertical portion is used when the engine is driving the prop. The sloped is an "overrun clutch" and is used when the water is driving the prop.....decelerating. In Reverse the gears are rectangular and lock in both directions.

Remove your prop and scribe a mark from the center spline straight out to the outer casting. Reinstall it and run it. Remove it and look at your line. If still straight, its not the prop. If not your hub is shot.

Some outboard motors will sound great with 1 or 2 cylinders not working.---Some simple trouble shooting must be done.-

If the motor revs extremely high with little forward thrust while high throttle is in demand. you've got already a Spun Hub shot prop. I would perform a hub slip test to rule that out as a starter and then continue with the extra trubleshooting if required. Props are not eternal, have their own expiration date..
