03 merc over reving

hey guys i own a 03 50hp (non bigfoot) 4stroke efi outboard. yesterday it started over reving under load. it runs fine at low rpm but when i try to plane out it over revs. the prop is stainless and in very good condition. does this motor have a clutch system in the foot? if so how hard would it be to repair it myself ? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it needs a new hub in the prop. you can see if that is the problem by marking the hub and prop in the same spot. then go for a ride, when you get back see if marks are still lined up.

i will try that for sure, would the hub be somthing i could replace with regular tools ? thanks for the info.
