Lund Renegade 1975 vs Ranger RT198p

I never felt the need for a bass boat, but now after reading the comments in this thread I sure won't get the urge. We have been plying the waters of the mighty St. Lawrence around Clayton, NY for the past 32 years, so I can attest to it's changeability. What is seemingly a quiet inland stream...

    Re-carpet Lowe FM160

Marideck or Nautolex is the only flooring that belongs in an aluminum boat. Standard equipment in Starcraft and many others. Even my first fiberglass runabout had it. Non-skid, east cleanup, easy on the feet. Only skill level 2 required. I once did a Starcraft update and the new parts I...

Antique Motors - Scott Atwater, Game Fisher and more

Yeah, sorry to say the market is soft now. Sure, the Merc s the most sought after of the lot, but it (and others) are missing the bottom cowls, so a full restoration is not possible. IMHO, offer the lot as parts motors for $200, but take the first $100 offer.

    Wobble roller placement

My boat is 2 feet shorter than the OP's, but the trailer is configured about the same. Except, my wobble roller assemblies have 8 rollers on each, not 4. If I wiggle my rollers, I can make each one move. My hull is gently cradled. PS - I also have a single axle trailer. Adding the spec...

    Wobble roller placement

Net dry weight is only one item needed to calculate gross boat weight. How big is the fuel tank? Then add the weight of the gas.

    Wobble roller placement

The picture is deceiving. The boat looks heavier than that. Even with your figures, when you add fuel and gear it comes to more like 160 pounds.

    Wobble roller placement

IMHO that trailer is totally inadequate for that boat. There are not nearly enough rollers to support the weight. Divide the total boat weight by the number of rollers. If each roller carries more than 125 pounds, you got a problem. The last pic of the Loadrite is more like it.

BRP Selling many of its marine assets

I only know what I read on the internet, so take that for what it's worth. When BRP originally shut down Evinrude, they stated that warranty work would still be honored, but they had paid Mercury to do it for them. No argument that the modified ETecs were fine motors, but the public simply did...

BRP Selling many of its marine assets

Evinrude was eliminated some years ago. BRP no longer makes outboard motors.

Rust, generally how to clean and best spray to keep it from rusting?

You can grind and sand the crap out of it, and then prime and topcoat. But, did you remove 100% of the rust? Wire brush wheel on a drill motor to remove loose scale, then kill the rust with Rust Reformer. Then prime and topcoat. You can do kit hard or do it easy. That doesn't matter. What...

    winter cover

Any system (tarps, wrap, etc.) will work. Entering can be built in. However, winter cruising is the issue. You will need to take the covering off and then replace it. You need indoor storage with immediate access.

    winter cover

No kidding. Blue tarps are crap. Silver is the only one that will last. BUTTTT, expect mold. Once your upholstery is spotted, you'll wish you spent the $110. Shrink wrap is OK...maybe. A sloppy installer and you got mold. In my case I spent $15,000 for a pole barn. Never need a...

    1995 Spartan Supreme roller trailer

I've been towing boat trailers around for 56 years. Never owned one that didn't clang a little bit.

my boat won’t sit on the front bottom roller

They are called straight rollers. Often used on some small roller bunks.

    1995 Spartan Supreme roller trailer

One cracked roller. Other than that it just about the best setup I have seen in years. Lower the bow keel roller just a tad to stop the movement. Whoever set that trailer up knew what he was doing. Possible the rollers simply aged. I second the poly roller suggestion.

    Help with bow roller setup

That's the answer. Other than a little jetski or an old woodie, I haven't cranked a boat winch in years. My current two boats had the winches removed and the winch stands modified to accept a Powerwinch. In both cases I used a poly roller setup because of their non-marking qualities as well...

    Trailer modification

You must have experience with only upscale winches. My personal favorite is DL. Certainly the above pic does not show an upscale product. My last 3 boats came with OEM top loaded winches - a Boston Whaler, a SeaRay and a Yamaha Waverunner. All were replaced with a Powerwinch (brand) that was...

    Trailer modification

The vast majority of winches are designed for a top unload. Using the bottom will defeat the braking mechanism and probably the ratchet. Cranking counterclockwise for a right handed person is unnatural. Coming off the bottom may cause the strap to rub on places it shouldn't rub when pulling...

    Trailer modification

The keel roller is set too low. The back of the bunks are set too high. The front of the bunks are set too low. The homemade wood bunk support needs to be replaced with a proper adjustable bracket. Fit the boat properly on the trailer and then adjust the winch stand properly. Can't tell for...

time to say goodbye to all.

My earliest recollection of life itself was at age 4 sitting next to Grandpa with his hand holding mine on the tiller. When Grandma died and Grandpa sold the boat it was the worst day of my life. It took me a few years but I had a boat before I had a car. If I ever say goodbye it will be as...
