BRP Selling many of its marine assets

I didn't see any topic in a search that referenced BRP selling off product divisions.

I wonder how big of a mess BRP is going to create selling off most of its marine assets it merged/absorbed and managed poorly.

I don't see Evinrude directly referenced in this. I'd like to see someone from the press to "press them" to give clarification if that involves selling off Evinrude.

I definitely seeing them trying to wiggle out of BRP outboards still covered under warranty by selling off the assets to someone else and then using the contract language to basically render such warranty agreements as void.

Valcourt, Quebec, October 17, 2024BRP Inc. (TSX : DOO; NASDAQ : DOOO) today announced that it is initiating a process for the sale of its Marine businesses namely Alumacraft, Manitou, Telwater (Quintrex, Stacer, Savage and Yellowfin), and Marine parts, accessories and apparel. This process excludes all activities related to its Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Sea-Doo Switch pontoons and jet propulsion systems.

Evinrude was eliminated some years ago. BRP no longer makes outboard motors.

Many folks out there that would like their simpler Johnson / Evinrude 2 strokes supported with quality parts.

They still own the rights of the intellectual property and the rights to make parts for them and are on the hook for warranty support of the outboards still covered (dwindling but still present).

That still has value they can "sell" to others.

From what I've read, BRP killed off Evinrude, no longer exists. Only thing that they make beyond the boats is the wonderful "underboard" Stealth engine with its highly complex bailing system and poor performance.

In a nutshell, this is all self-inflicted.

What exactly they're selling remains to be seen. It might include the last iteration of Evinrude/Johnson outboards but who knows...

Cousin has a boat with one of the G2 series I think and it's darn quiet. Seems decent as long as the parts support remains.

the 3-year warranty on the last motors they produced back in 2020 has ran out.

I wish they would do their own financing, they could lower the interest rate or go to zero interest , they would sell a lot more , then I could buy a boat instead of paying a bank !

A few yeas ago (2019?) they were offering a ten year warrantee on the Etec, I was tempted, found a brand new Key West DC with one on it, but having been through searching for parts for my old Cobra powered boat, I decided to not to go that way (again) lol. And it was the right decision as we see now.
I'm hoping I can still get parts for the Cobra, most things I can get, but they haven't been made in so long, it's mostly aftermarket (and used ebay) now. I converted my exhaust from the batwings to the standard 2 piece set up 7 years ago, using Barr and Volvo parts, now that replacement is easy, because Barr still makes good manifolds/elbows. Of course I could do the SEI conversion, and bolt an Alpha on the back of my boat, or even the Volvo SX conversion but that's a lot more money and the SX hasn't been made in over 15 years as well. The Cobra has been very good to me, very few problems, and I have a lot of Cobra spares, so I guess I'm not going to worry about who buys the parts division.

I only know what I read on the internet, so take that for what it's worth. When BRP originally shut down Evinrude, they stated that warranty work would still be honored, but they had paid Mercury to do it for them.

No argument that the modified ETecs were fine motors, but the public simply did not go for them in large enough numbers. The 4-stroke took over the whole market.

BRP was basically "jetskis" from the beginning. I bet they regretted getting into the OB market. And surely, their underwater toon motor is simply another indication of bad management.

Just my opinion...
