    Yeah it was under side step/rub rail as you mentioned, I'm going to leave it still I have the boat paint stripped and then assess. There was some sort of sealant at the seams on the bow on the interior that I will be re-sealing as it was NFG due to time

    Sorry I meant to say it was under the deck sides, as if to keep water out of the hull from under the sides, if I had to guess it's because they are not sealed by welds, it's an aluminum boat from about 1977

    Yeah mine is a 77 beyond those models and my model is the Monterey 60, it might have been a small Canadian company that made only aluminum fishing boats, hence no results

    Has anyone ever heard of the mermaid boat company? The registry plate on my bow has that stamped along with a 5 digit No. and model name, it's an aluminum boat and all I can find is one so named that only made fiberglass hulls.

    Do you have a link? This is a Canadian serial #, the jack plate was installed because the old owner had a long shaft, it will be coming off when I get the motor mount made in my shop
