For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

Good advice. I’ll be much faster this second time around. I think that’s what I’ll do.

For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

Correct. Not sure the # I received but I received the wedge key and wedge impeller. Looks like a simple return and redo unfortunately. Thx for looking it up for me though. I really appreciate the time!

For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

I used the original steel key as stated in OP. The impeller is wedge shaped though so there is a bit of a mismatch there. No, I’m unfortunately unaware of how to test the horn in these old ‘76’s. I’m not 100% sure mine has one honestly. I haven’t seen a horn type thing anywhere. Mistakes...

For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

I ordered the correct kit. I received the wrong it. Is trusted online shop not an option? 😂😂 Any experience in knowing of the wedge impeller would work ok installed with the original woodruff key? That’s what I did and it seemed to work ok but definitely seemed a bit sketchy. You just never...

For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

That’s the kit I ordered. Looks like they sent the wrong one then. Thanks for the help! Needless to say the news style impeller with the old key installed probably won’t last will it? Wish I didn’t have to redo everything..

For those who know 70’s Evinrude / Johnson I have a slightly challenging question

I just did the water pump for the first time on a recently received 1976 70HP Evinrude, and the water pump kit came with plastic keys that were unlike the motor’s flywheel key. It was more ramp shaped, which I believe is what most replacement kit keys are. The new impeller’s inside key indent...

Engine won’t start when I switch spark cables from cylinder 2 and 3 (3 is currently not firing)

So today I checked rectifier for good measure (checks good) and then I switched ignition coils from the bottom (which wasn’t sparking) and middle by opening the power pack and switching their locations on the power pack (2 and 3) and then switched the coil on the spark plugs, so now the lower...

Engine won’t start when I switch spark cables from cylinder 2 and 3 (3 is currently not firing)

Good to know. Do you know a good way to test sensor coils? I don’t have rhe “neon light tester” the manual asks for, although I could detach and switch coils 1 and 3 to see if they swap functionality as well? There may be a better way, but that’s the best idea I’ve got currently.

Engine won’t start when I switch spark cables from cylinder 2 and 3 (3 is currently not firing)

Whoops. Cylinder 3 failed the spark tester test. It did not jump 7/16”. The other two did. So it makes me think coil? Not sure if power pack would power other two still if it was the issue

Engine won’t start when I switch spark cables from cylinder 2 and 3 (3 is currently not firing)

Would this mean I’m having issues with getting spark on cylinder 3? Or is there something else i I’m missing that would nullify what I think I’m seeing? Motor is 77 70HP 3 cylinder Johnson. I did the cylinder drop test to learn cylinder 3 is not firing. I recently did a carb rebuild to solve...

‘77 70hp Johnson Repair and Carburetor Rebuild

hey there, Im doing my first carb rebuild of an engine I just bought that worked when I bought it a week ago and then died a few minutes into running at the dock on its first trip. I found a small crack in the small hoses that connect all three carbs together. Does anyone know what spec works...
