3.0 Long Block - Cracked - Any Value?

Thank you both. If I don't find something local it appears Michigan Motors will give me a bit of money for it next time I pass through that way.

3.0 Long Block - Cracked - Any Value?

Hello, I bought a project a couple of years ago and replaced the engine with a new long block because the one in it was cracked. It was a 2012 3.0. Is there any value to the old long block or just the scrap value? I would disassemble parts if I thought they had value and someone could use...

    3.0 Timing Question

It does list 2ATDC on the flame arrestor from the original engine (2012). I switched everything over to a new Long Block that was a new Mercruiser part (not rebuilt or reman) for that SN. It runs well and is nice and smooth. I may leave it for the time being if it's not going to damage it...

    3.0 Timing Question

I have a quick timing question for a Mercruiser 3.0 SN is 1A648581. I'm have had it out a few times since rebuilding but went out tonight to re-torque a few bolts and just check over things. I also wanted to recheck the timing. Start it up and warm it up and idle it. Connect jumper and...

    Mystery Part - Help!

Is it threaded on the inside? Looks a bit like the grommet that pops into the bell housing for the plastic cover.

New Long Block, Cranks and Won't Start

So since the strong consensus here was timing, I took another shot on timing... It was being set on the correct stroke but the cap was off from the rotor. Reset that and it started right up. Got it idling, set the timing and seems to be running good. Thanks for help!

New Long Block, Cranks and Won't Start

Yep. The cap labelled in that order and I've confirmed that each wire goes to the corresponding cylinder number. Not sure if it makes a difference... When I'm cranking it does sound like there is some combustion (kind of like a soft thuds as it cranks) and the exhaust does have the regular...

New Long Block, Cranks and Won't Start

For verifying the distributor, what more can I do to check it? I pulled the plugs and stuck my finger in hole 1 (closest to front of boat) until I felt it building pressure. I then turned the crank until the notch on the pulley was at the 0 timing mark (this is what I interpreted from the...

New Long Block, Cranks and Won't Start

Hello all, I have just finished dropping my engine back into my boat after getting a new Long Block (project boat, previous owner cracked block). Its a 2012 Bayliner with a Merc 3.0 SN of the original engine was 1A648581. It cranks but won't start. It sounds like it wants to, it just won't...

    2012 Bayliner Project Boat Opinion

Just posting an update to this project... I took out the engine in the fall and picked up a long block. Transferred everything over during the winter and dropped it back in today. Cleaned out the spider webbing cracking and found everything underneath to be solid and good... I think it was...

    3.0 Alternator Alignment

This one is a threaded shaft with a nut. It has a mercruiser part number on it so I believe it's the original (or an OEM replacement).

    3.0 Alternator Alignment

It would be the pulley I bring out. The alternator is pretty fixed in its position. I would just be adding the shim behind the pulley Mike

    3.0 Alternator Alignment

Hello, I'm working on getting my new 3.0 longblock back together to install. I noticed on the old engine and then as I'm reassembling the alternator pulley is out about 3/16" when I check the alignment to the crank pulley with a straight edge. I took the pulley off and there is a single...

Merc 3.0 Cracked Block but Manifold ok?

This is exactly my concern. I'll likely grab a new one given the uncertainty.

Merc 3.0 Cracked Block but Manifold ok?

During non Covid times I would. Unfortunately borders are closed and it's a 2 week quarantine upon return if you manage to get down there. I will likely wait and see if they open back up closer to spring.

Merc 3.0 Cracked Block but Manifold ok?

Unfortunately it's about $800 here in Canada. I have no issues replacing it, unless I can be confident this one is good.

Merc 3.0 Cracked Block but Manifold ok?

I tried that and filled the exhaust ports with water with the manifold on its side.. no sign of any bubbles. Are you saying pressurize and see if it holds the pressure?

Merc 3.0 Cracked Block but Manifold ok?

Hello, I did a number of searches but am left with a couple of unanswered questions. I bought a 2012 Bayliner 185 as a winter project, previous owner didn't winterize and cracked the block. I knew this going in and have ordered a new long block. He also indicated the manifold was cracked...

    2012 Bayliner Project Boat Opinion

Just to follow up, I took another look and decided to go for it. Got it home and checked out the cracking a little further. Wood all seems solid, it appears the cracking was more superficial. I managed to get it for $11,000 so well under half of what similar ones go for used in the area...

    2012 Bayliner Project Boat Opinion

Good evening, I have followed for a while but this is a first post. I owned a 17' Bowrider a number of years ago and decided to look at one again. I've had a bit of a project boat come up and looking for a bit of an opinion... I'm looking at a 2012 Bayliner 185 with a 3.0L. it has a...
