    Gear lube leak after maintenance?

Boat is winterized and was checking the drive after changing the shift shaft seal this October. Drive was pulled for yearly maintenance. No oil dripping or puddle on the ground. Clearly a very small amount coming out of the upper shift shaft. Normal? I've never noticed this before after an...

Shift shaft seal / carrier seal / oil o-ring?

What would be the direct issue of gear oil seeping down the upper shift shaft onto the lower shift shaft assembly?

Shift shaft seal / carrier seal / oil o-ring?

Correct. I figured worst case, I'm wasting a bit of money for the sake of preventative maintenance. Nope, that wasn't the worst case haha

Shift shaft seal / carrier seal / oil o-ring?

I'm kicking myself, my boat is a 99. I've had it for six years with no issues, this season I decided to do some extra maintenance and do the shift shift assembly and carrier assembly, Have never had oil leaks before and now I do.

Shift shaft seal / carrier seal / oil o-ring?

Split the drive and found the shift shaft assembly soaked in oil. Pressure tested and found the leak in the oil bushing gasket. Just installed the part two days ago. Serves me right installing Sierra parts. I can see that oil coming out of those weep holes could be either the shaft assembly...

Shift shaft seal / carrier seal / oil o-ring?

New gear oil leaking out of the lower unit holes after putting the out drive back together. Which seal is to blame? Water was flowing out of holes when running on the hose. Drained oil after seeing the leak, no water in oil.

    Out drive water flow incorrect?

The speedo tube is in front of the shift lever, I had the connection secured to it during the video. The water looks like it's coming from way above the plate where the speedo tube connection is

Alpha 1 Gen 2 shift shaft seal replacement

Looking for info on a part. Found some water in lower oil while changing it, pressure test found the issue was the shift shaft bushing, seal was torn and all oily. The replacement I got is missing this washer. I can't find any info or part number for it. Only thing I can find is a shift...

Reminder to check gear before towing.

Found a beat up cooler upside down on the side of the road right off the highway in update NY where we camp. Just got into town and saw it, pulled over, full of PBR, ice was still cold. Ive been trying to duplicate that kind of luck every since

Mercruiser Exhaust Tube vs Exhaust Bellows Opinions, and Part # for Tube.

I had the tube on my Merc 3.0 for three seasons until I did all the bellows at once, so I re-installed the exhaust. I like it being slightly quieter, not a huge difference. Interestingly enough, I think I can feel a slight rumble/vibration through the steering wheel now since the exhaust is...

    1988 mercruiser 5.0 alpha one

"Bad gas mixed with good gas just equals more bad gas" Its amazing how much carb engines hate bad gas. I didnt believe it till I experienced it on my own years ago. Had lots of engine problems, fixed them all when I stopped messing around and pumped all of last seasons fuel out. Added fresh...

What kind of damage from an I/O in salt water for 2-3 years?

Do you have pictures? Make/model of the boat? Make/model of the engine? Been floating at a marina, private dock, mooring? You are asking a lot of specific questions with very little detail guys in here would need to make those answer worthwhile.

What kind of engine do you have? Raw water cooled? What temp is it running at?

    Going straight at low speed?

Assuming you’ve got an I/O, you can check the gimbal ring. Mine had gotten a tad loose and once tightened to spec (carefully) it improved the wander at slow speeds greatly for me.
