    mushy floor, lag bolt question

Hi guys, I hope this is the right forum. My '86 Regal Sebring 195 Openbow which I just recently restored enough to get in the water after 17 years of barn storage has the dreaded mushy floors. I knew this, but I had other pressing issues this spring/summer to get repaired first, ala sterndrive...

    Maiden Voyage!!!

First, I hope this isn't too far OT. With the help of y'all over the past several months we finally had our maiden voyage in the new to me '86 Regal 19' Sebring Merc Alpha One 140 yesterday and here's a short little recap of that voyage. Extreme THANK YOU's go out to all here who have helped...

    Prop torque?

I can't find in the manual, nor did searching turn up anything (quite surprised), but does anyone know the torque for the prop nut? FINALLY putting her in the big lake tomorrow for maiden voyage and don't want to lose a prop LOL.

    Drain plug help

Thank you much Rick! I get you, so the petcock is typically used to drain the block, makes sense. And the vertical plug going into the exhaust manifold immediately above the petcock, gotcha, I didn't look UP LOL, but actually found that one in the meantime as #2 here in this diagram.... and...

    Drain plug help

Thank you all! Can y'all please tell me which of the following holes need plugged, and what are not important? He said he removed three, but then wasn't positive. I found 8 holes total. I think the bigger ones on the left side of the block are vehicle motor mounts (green circles), obviously not...

    Drain plug help

Guys, I think I need to order some engine block drain plugs but don't know where to go. She's a 86 regal Sebring with the 3.0. My (aging) dad said he took three plugs out when he drained the block 15 years ago before putting her into hibernation. I cannot locate the three plugs and don't know...

    What is this?

Thanks guys, I see mine is the new design (there's a FIRST!) as the pump is facing down. So, probably replace the line from the pump to the carb and the filter in the carb and good to go? Hopefully? I should probably take the carb off and at minimal dowse it in some carb cleaner, or better to...

    What is this?

Just a WAG, but is this the water fuel separator? And either way, is there something inside here like a filter I should change? My boat is just coming out of a 15 year indoor storage, and I JUST finished rebuilding the outdrive. So now my focus is turning to fuel delivery and the undoubted...

    Run engine without prop?

I just had a curiosity question. Is it safe to test run the engine/drive on land with the prop off? Or is that giving no resistance for the engine which could cause overrev or something bad? Of course I mean using muffs and running water.

    achris videos

Hope you see this achris, I just wanted you to know how thankful we are for your super videos! Here we are finishing up our first ever stern drive rebuild, with the help of many in this forum, and via cell phone, thank you! Used a lot of your videos to help me along the way, and especially...

    Torquing Drive Gear stack

I just wanted to see if I set myself up for trouble or not. I'd rather err on the side of caution and redo it than take the chance. Quick background, I have the Alpha 1, Gen 1, and I do have the small spacer in my bearing/drive gear stack. I did not change any bearings or gear, simply took it...

    Gas gauge screw torque?

I realize this isn't exactly a Mercruiser Engine or Stern Drive question, but I had to remove the screws that hold the gas gauge (fuel sending unit is it called maybe?) from the top of the gas tank under the floor to siphon out the 15 year old gas tonight. Does anyone have a guess as to the...

    Cross-threaded shift cable

1986 Alpha One Gen 1 #0A594520 Well, I feel horrible. While reinstalling the shift cable in the bell housing I ended up cross threading a few of the beginning threads. I stopped immediately and made two more slow careful attempts but was cross threaded each time. The threads on the cable look...

    I-R Gear Housing?

I see a chapter in the Mercruiser Alpha One manual called "I-R Gear Housing" but I can't figure out what it is, it looks the same as the other chapter to me. Does anyone know what this I-R Gear Housing is? http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/6/6C3R3.PDF Thanks.

    Bearing Preload

Hey guys, I've got at least one possibly two dumb questions, which will consume my allotment for the year ;-) 1986 Alpha 1 gen 1, I've replaced the water pump in the gear housing, the upper and lower oil seals in the driveshaft housing, left off the Drive Shaft O-ring and installed the large...

Water pump gasket 1986 Alpha One

I bought a waterpump kit for my 1986 Alpha One. The gasket included for the base is about 1/8" diam too small. I don't want to force it on for fear of ripping it, it is mighty fragile looking. Also even if it did go on there isn't a cutout for the corner pin. There isn't enough material in...

Shift Cable Bellows - Alpha One 1986

Hey guys, new to boating, and am in the middle of replacing the three bellows on the 1986 Alpha One. I am using the info in the Clymer Mercruiser Sterndrive Shop Manual as I go, plus info gleaned here and youtube of course, but am confused on replacing the shift cable bellows without replacing...
