Boat Eye Hook rusted nuts - how to remove

Hello, In the course of rehabbing the floor of this 18ft Ebbtide Riviera, I now see that the nuts on the eye hook back side or totally rusted. I mean WAY gone. Will it be possible to salvage the hook? How can I remove what's left of these nuts from the threads?

How to separate Gunnel from Hull? (1990 Ebbtide Riviera project boat)

This ended up being much easier than I had anticipated. When starting it felt like it was going to be impossibly tight to get the angle grinder in - but it fit just right. There was no issue cutting against the cap - I don't think I touched it. Thanks for the sharpie advice - it helped not only...

How to separate Gunnel from Hull? (1990 Ebbtide Riviera project boat)

Hi - I started this project last year and focused on getting the motor running and then winterized it.. began removing rotten floor because it was soft in the back corners... but the damage turned out to be throughout the boat. So tore up the floor, removed the foam all the way up to the bow...

18' Ebbtide Riviera floor replacement: - on trailer blocking

Hi this is my first project boat, I've got the floor off and foam out of the main deck but will need to pop the cap in order to get to the area under the bow seats. This increases the risk of tin-canning from what I've read. My trailer (rollers) has 16 points of contact and I've added an...

Ebbtide Riviera Project - how to access floor in bow compartment?

hahaha took me a minute, but I see your point! I have a ladder that goes up to the rear swim platform and I think it should be simple duck under as I step down into the boat.... I hope....!

Ebbtide Riviera Project - how to access floor in bow compartment?

Thanks! I like your stand. I'm thinking maybe I'll make some brackets to help keep the boat edges firm and float the cap 1-2 feet above the boat. I don't think I need a lot of space to move (the bow section of the floor is only about 3 feet long). With the tent garage I won't have to worry about...

Ebbtide Riviera Project - how to access floor in bow compartment?

Thanks.... boat is not in a garage though planning on getting a temporary "tented" garage... Any thoughts as to if that will be strong enough to hold the weight of the cap, or would I have to remove the windshield too?

Ebbtide Riviera Project - how to access floor in bow compartment?

Hi, I'm restoring this 1990 Ebbtide Riviera XL starting with redoing the floor. I started in the back where the deck was soft and was hoping to stop at just under the console. Turns out that not only was everything rotten but also had large ants and the neither stopped at the console. The bow...

Can I replace an alpha 1 gen I with an alpha 1 gen II?

Ok so probably not something I'd want to do unless I'm rebuilding the transom... but it's at least doable as long as I replace all hardware. Can you offer guidance on replacing the lower unit vs just the lower unit body (the outer shell and keeping the guts)? I'm guessing replacing the shell...

Can I replace an alpha 1 gen I with an alpha 1 gen II?

The Alpha 1 Gen I on my project boat is connected to a mercruiser 3.0. The body of the lower unit is in pretty bad shape. I have reason to believe the rest is salvageable without a huge investment (i.e. I assume that I'll be replacing the water pump, repacking with grease, replacing the...

Mercruiser 3.0 (older) Leave hose off? Plugs out?

I have an older Mercruiser 3.0 that I recently got running (for several seconds) but not long enough to winterize. I've removed the 2 plugs on the port side (didn't find any on the starboard side) and removed the 2 large hoses. Lots of water was drained. The inlets from the large hoses are...

    Carburetor choke not opening?

Hi, I have a 1989ish Mercruiser 3.0 with electric choke. At idle the choke plate looks fully closed. With the throttle at full (engine not running), it opens up just a touch (to where I think it should be at idle). With ignition on and deadman switch installed the "purple" wire going...

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

I was kicking myself for not doing a compression test while I was pulling the spark plugs.... Hopefully I can get that done tomorrow (weather/time permitting). Thanks!

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

The battery is practically brand new. It has a born-on date of 1/2020 and was purchased this past July and has only been used a half dozen times (if that) on the water with a different boat. There is zero corrosion on it. With regards to sealing it up, is there any point in doing that while...

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

Thanks - I can't get over how good this advice is. I cranked the battery connections down earlier today and was surprised by the change. I had no idea how profound the difference would be. Thanks CF

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

Well... In previous post with pics you suggested it was a direct drive (and I'm confident you are correct) Initially I tried with plugs in, but this afternoon I took the plugs out, but no real change that I could discern. This is about as good as it gets in terms of cranking speed. Sometimes...

How tight is too tight when trying to spin motor by hand

Hi, The regular newbie here trying to rehab a 1990ish 3.0 Mercruiser motor. I've gotten the motor to crank and smoke and shake, and it sounds like it wants to start. It seems like the starter motor is cranking too slowly and I want to blame this on the starter motor, because that seems like an...

How to identify Mercruiser 3.0 starter model

Thanks for giving me even more things to consider :) Is it worth changing or better to stick with a straight replacement? Seems like a PMGR would be easier on the battery/starter motor while the direct drive would be simpler (maybe fewer parts that could go wrong) and cheaper.
