I replaced my old-style rack & pinion cable and helm with the newer "nfb" cable and helm. My old helm had a thumbscrew underneath to hold the helm in a stationary position. There is no such provision on the the nfb helm. Why not?
I recently bought a 1988 Bayliner Capri as a "fixer upper". My problem is that the rack & pinion steering is tight and hard to turn. It is also very squeaky while turning. Is this something I can fix or should I take it to a dealer. This is my first boat, so any help is appreciated.
Does anybody know how to disconnect the shift cable when removing a 1988 OMC Cobra sterndrive? I can pull the unit back about 1" before it stops and I can't see any way to disconnect the cable.
