BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

Problem solved. It just needed a small linkage adjustment so that the throttle was open a little more when starting. After I replaced the carb, I adjusted the linkage a little bit because it was revving too high at idle. I think that is what caused the problem. When I read about hard starting...

BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

Thanks. There was definitely fuel coming out of the bowl and I also checked the gaps. I was able to get it to start this evening two times so far (with cooling off period between both starts). I suspect one problem might have to do with the linkage adjustment. When I turned the idle screw all...

BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

Spark plugs look brand new. I think the PO replaced them. I don't know what a 'good spark' looks like, only that it does spark.

Forgot to mention that compression looked ok, though a little uneven.

BF8A & Sore Wrist (Hard Starting)

I just bought the motor used and was told that it had starting trouble. I removed and cleaned out carb and jets and it started on the second pull. That was two weeks ago and now I have difficulty starting it. When it does start, I'm never sure what I did to get it to start. - I once spritzed...

How to remove paint from fiberglass floor?

I have 14 foot sailboat with a large soft spot on the port side. We removed the inner skin and found that the 1/8 in coring was rotten, causing delamination. We have removed the coring and since the layer is so thin, we plan to do the whole repair using glass. We're almost ready to start laying...

Force 85 wont start; possible throttle problem

Re: Force 85 wont start; possible throttle problem The linkage moves freely when disconnected from the motor. Take a look at these photos. Both were taken at the same time. Mechanically, I don't see how the carbs CAN open any more. The timing advance linkage seems to be fully advanced. I'm stumped.

Force 85 wont start; possible throttle problem

Re: Force 85 wont start; possible throttle problem I snapped some photos out at the storage site, but forgot to bring along the instructions for adjusting the linkage. The first photo shows the linkage with the throttle all the way forward in drive. The second shows the same, with the linkage...

Force 85 wont start; possible throttle problem

Motor started right up when I bought it back in November. It cranks fine. It backfires occasionally but won't start. I noticed that the throttles are not opening at all, regardless of whether the shifter is in gear or neutral only. Choke is working fine. Could the linkage be seized or is there...
