    Lower unit compatability

An ahaaa moment. I meant the entire outdrive as I considered the piece that comes off as the lower unit. I only need to put on the REAL lower unit to accomplish my goal. Thank you all!

    Lower unit compatability

Thanks, that is what I thought. Or I can stay with the lower prop and have great hole shot. Watching the high rpms also. I was thinking of going to a stainless 3 blade in the same pitch. People say the stiffness makes them act like an alum in a higher pitch......

    Lower unit compatability

I picked up a boat just for the lower unit. It is a 3.0 with the same generation drive as my other with 4.3. I wanted to replace it as the cavitation plate was destroyed by fork lifts and the all aluminum "whale tail" from NZ that was on it when I got it. My question is, other then gear ratio...

All back together, tank has fuel, just need some water to try it out and adjust the carbs. Feeling good about the rebuild. Time will tell. Might go for the single fuel line upgrade, but I have 2 tanks for now....

Condensers were ordered before I knew the condition of these.....carb already sprayed out, might get another float, it is the cork one and does not set level with the rim. Seems fragile, and hard to adjust. As in bend the tab...

I surmised as much....the only dirt I found was in the bowl itself. I always liked the glass bowl filters on the motors. Like the old oil filled air filters....very effective.

Its off....Now can anyone tell if the metal filter is supposed to have these in it? there was a brass screen rolled up inside it.

Pulled the carb and split it, it is so clean inside I am putting it back together without rebuilding. Only hang up is I can't get the glass bowl off to clean it up.....soaking in oil now.

Got a compression tester today and a flywheel pulley remover. Both worked great. Engine has not been run in at least 25 years. Both cylinders at 70 psi and the flywheel popped right off. Think the coils are still good? I ordered points last night but the ones in there look great.

Yes, I could use that service manual.....I ordered coils and a carb kit from wholesale marine but they were out of stock on the points and condensers.... This will get more fun when I retrieve the old Cale I have stashed away in Maine.

Nearest chapter is at least 2 1/2 hours away. But there is an older mechanic here, little eccentric, but I trust he knows his stuff. Neat shop....as in interesting shop. Time for a visit! Thanks.

Well, it took buying a sliding weight bearing puller for to much $$$ and putting it on the shaft after a week of soaking....but it is off. Now, is there a simple way to get parts for this motor? I have found a few places with links that take me someplace that does not have parts for this model...

No pics? the bow of my Wagemaker is in my avatar....1958 I have set up a cable system but am not happy with it. I have not launched the boat and will make some changes before I do. I had the wheel and most of the system, but since I put a Panther tilt on the rear, I had to improvise....I would...

I have it suspended upside down from a bracket I built. Realized yesterday that there was something down in the joint between the shaft and output piece. It appears to be a washer and I recalled an o-ring from a schematic....cut it out as best I could with a utility blade and put more kroil in...

Well, I got the motor apart, but the shaft is stuck tight still. I have it upside down with Kroil soaking in. Now to get the water tube free.....This motor was last run in the early 90's and was running fine when put on the stand in an old shed. I was the last person to use it....before I used...

Thank you, I have been trying the vice grip method and very careful tapping. I did not know if to much impact might damage a bearing. I found those tidbits in a thread about an 18hp which shares some parts with mine. Still want to get the extension tube off to clean things up better. Is it...
