    Help me out

In the 70's I had a Zodiac Mk ll with a 20 HP Merc. I just aquirred a free Evinrude 9.9 and am thinking about an inflatable for it. Looking in the 10 to 12 foot range. Now days the choises are hypalon, PVC, glued or welded and many more brands. I am trying to stay below $1500 so that seems to...

    Cooling system mystery

It's Mercruiser 260 with closed cooling and was rebuilt 5 years ago with new manifolds and elbows and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. Have not had any problems until now. It has a 160 degree thermostat. I have a temperature gauge mounted on the left side of the cooling water cross over of...

    Question about exhaust manifold gasket

I am putting a closed cooling system on the 5.7 Chevy I am building. I am using Mercruiser center rise exhaust manifolds which will be closed cooled also. The Mercruiser parts breakdown shows only gasket 27-863725 is used to block off the water passages between the manifold and exhaust elbow. I...

    Oil pan

I am building a 350 Chevy straight inboard engine with a BW Velvet Drive clutch from new and used parts. I picked up a used Mercruiser cast aluminum inboard oil pan. It is a pre 1980 pan for a left hand dip stick block. I am looking for the capacity of the pan. It seems to be either 5 or 6...

Mercury buying used 305 long blocks

Why is Mercury offering its dealers $500 and paying shipping cost for used 305 vortec long blocks they send to Mercury? I saw this in a Mercury dealer publication.

    Velvet drive oil cooler hose

I am installing a 71 series Velvet drive and need to make up the oil hoses to the oil cooler and back to the sump and need to know what pressure rating hose is needed. It would seem that since only the excess oil from the pressure control valve dumps back into the transmission sump through the...

    Transducer location

I have a 22 foot single sraight inboard and am trying to determine the best location for the transducer. There is not much room on the transome because of the trim tabs. The only spot would be pretty much behind the rudder and prop. If I shoot through the hull should it be forward of the shaft...

    Garboard drain

The Chris Craft I am restoring has a garboard drain that is shaped like a scoop with the opening facing aft. I really don't see the purpose of the scoop and I am sure it adds some drag. I am thinking about replacing it with a flush one unless someone can give me a good reason for the scoop.

    Setting strut, rudder, etc

I am restoring a fiberglass Chris Craft Cutlass straight inboard and I would like opinions on what to use to bed the shaft strut, rudder post and the stern tube. Epoxy filler, 3M 5200 or other. I am leaning toward 3M 5200 because of the<br />flexibility. Might epoxy filler tend to crack from...

    Teak filler

There are some small cracks in the teak cover boards on the Chris Craft I am restoring and I am thinking about saving the sanding dust from the boards and mixing it with clear epoxy resin to fill the cracks. Has anyone tried this or have a better suggestion.
