Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.

Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist. Here's a "hot" item: Burned boat for salvage or rebuild 20' Cobia center console without trailer, boat caught fire and completely destroyed in said fire. You'll have to retitled it as salvage and replace a few cosmetic items and this would make...

Removing a 351B engine to repair a rod knock: Coral Restoration Foundation

Today I got a call from the CRF, Coral Restoration Foundation, to come and listen to their boat. They have been told that their engine is "blown" and Ken wanted me to come down and give a listen. I first checked the oil level and we had to add a couple of quarts. However, once started, the knock...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... Pulley Alignment It did great and no annoying howling if I go over 4K... in fact I had it over 5k and all I heard was a bit of noise coming from the alternator. Yep, you guessed it. It's out and apart. The rear needle bearings are dry, but they haven't galled the...

    Overheat on my 3.0l...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... Of all the pulleys I have asked about on EBay, none are acceptable... not even close. I welded the center in the pulley today and checked the run out with a dial indicator after I mounted it to the pump. I have about 0.014" lateral and 0.021" axial play. That's less...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... The actual rebuild of the pump was simple. I sent a message to SherwoodPumps.com and got an immediate answer. He sent me a picture of several pumps and mine was right there. I went to NAPA with the list and he had all the parts in stock. All of them except for the...

    Overheat on my 3.0l...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... One final thing. The pulley may be salvageable. The broken center fits perfectly into the pulley and I think that I could weld her right back in with no distortion.

    Overheat on my 3.0l...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... OK, the pump was easy to disassemble and I need one bearing and one seal to put it back together. I found the bearing easily as the part number was on the old bearing. 6204.RS is the number and a quick Google search shows it will only cost me about 2 or three bucks...

Re: Overheat on my 3.0l... Bad Impeller! OK, I went back in and found that I could turn the pump easily by hand. Way too easily! When I pulled the back of the pump off, I found the key sitting on top of the impeller! :D So, I tried several times to get it back in, but the key was always...

Yesterday, I was cruising just west of Garden Cove here in Key Largo heading to Cary's Ft reef for some diving. The boat was doing great thru the back channels from Pennekamp park, and we were just in open ocean doing about 25 mph @ 4,000 rpm with I hear a change in the timbre of the engine. I...

So today I was going to guide some new divers from Jacksonville to go hunt Bugs (Florida Spiny Lobster) but we were blown out (Small Craft Advisory). The boat I dive off (and sometimes fix) departs out of Key Largo Harbor Marina. As I was talking to the captain about a tragedy on the reef...

Homemade Bimini??? Has anyone tried to do this?

Pricing out Biminis has shocked me. They are little more than a tarp, but the prices are exorbitant. Anyone have any stories about making the cover and/or frames? I am thinking about using PVC for the poles and have no idea what to use for the cover.
