I've been thinking about adding a speedometer to the dash but just can't bring myself to cut a big ole hole. Anyone figured a way to mount one . Maybe make a separate wood grain panel or something ??

Valve ticking intermittent on 165 inline 6 cyl

Hello, I have a valve clicking off and on. It's affecting the power and smoothness of the engine. If it was a sticking valve wouldn't it keep sticking and not stop. Could it be a collapsing lifter. It will stop clicking if I stop the engine for a while and restart it and the engine will also...

Could the exhaust shudder restrict RPMs on my 165?

I recently posted about my plugs burning too clean and remembered that I installed a new exhaust shudder in my 1975 165hp L 6 last winter when I replaced the manifold. There was no shudder at all in my exhaust when I got it. My question is ..could this slightly lower the engine RPMs and top...

Plugs burning too clean on a 165 hp 250 six??

Pulled my plugs out of my 1975 165 hp mercruiser GM straight six last night to check compression and noticed they looked like " brand new" plugs after being run all Summer. The porcelain centers were perfectly white. Been noticing my RPMs were down slightly with lower top speeds. Fuel pump...

Yeah, today was tinkering day on the nineteen

My rear seats were faded some so I fogged a little blue dye on them and coated them with SEM vinyl clear. I think it helped them. By just fogging them, I didn't lose the marbled look of the vinyl and it blended pretty good . I just did the cushions. Armrests are original.

Flag staff for a '75 Nineteen

Was there ever a optional flag/pennant staff available for a 1975 nineteen? I had thought about mounting an old Jervis staff on the front right behind the bow light.

    Gas fumes in stern area

OK,I'm stumped. I covered up my Aristocraft 19 for the winter to keep it from getting so dirty setting in the basement(burn wood for heat). Well,I keep getting fumes as if it was a gas can with the lid off. I've checked everything that I can think of, pulled the sending unit and access cover,put...

Started on the windshield frame....about to wrap it up.

Took the windshield apart this afternoon after work. Didn't break it,LOL. Those V- brackets in the corner of the frame are tough if they're rusty and the allen screw strip out. Managed to save them though. Going to try to soak the frames in lye tomorrow to strip off the anodize. Hopefully get...

Buffing the rubrail on my nineteen

I decided to buff and polish the rubrail on my nineteen. Had to sand off all the badly tarnished anodize first. And then progress with waterpaper up to 2000grit. Then finish it with Busch aluminum polish. Turned out really nice. Hopefully finish up today and get the insert back on the rubrail...

    Took out the Nineteen yesterday

Took the boat to my main lake I go to with my son and daughter for some tubing and cruising. Boat seemed to do pretty good. I'm not used to the power trim yet,but am getting the hang of it. Boat would run 46mph at approx. 44-4500 rpm,but that is running with no hardtop. Boat seems to ride high...

Got a question about my nineteen.

I was cleaning out the side storage bins and noticed on the right side that under the carpet liner was what looked like ground up foam covering the wires, steering cable, etc. I was wanting to know if this is factory padding for the wires or something I should clean out? Thanks

    Tried out my nineteen

Got to float the nineteen yesterday. The 165 ran superb! The boat seemed to float high on the water(great!) Been rubbin' and a buffin' the gelcoat today. Later, I need to contact Aristocraft and get some parts. Need a left side front rail. PO must have cut it in two as half is gone lol. And some...

Question about a driveshaft seal on a 165 mercruiser

Pulled the lower off to check the water pump for piece of mind and noticed this seal in the driveshaft hole in with the sealing lip facing down towards the exhaust housing instead of sealing towards the upper gear case. Is this bottom seal sealing lip supposed to face down or up?? NEWBY here...
