Re: Funny "TLC needed" boat ads on Craigslist.
It is funny on craigs list but!!! I bought this 84 17' Imperial with a 115 merc. on craigs list for $100. It was in such bad shape there was a tree growing from the floor. I've spent the last 6 months restoring it back to better than new...
When spraying brightside one part polyurethane, do you: A. Apply 3 heavy coats, carefully remove tape, wait till next day and sand smooth with which grit? or B. Apply 4-5 thinner coats, keep tape on, and sand lightly between coats with which which grit? or C. sell it as is(just kidding) I've...
I'm in the paint stage of the renovation of my 84 imperial. I was wondering if there is a gloss clear coat to apply over the finished brightside paint to protect it fom the sun etc.? The brightside is made from interlux. Thanks
What should I use as a final wipe down solution before I start spraying topcoat enamel? It is a 2 part epoxy primer. I'm heading to the boat store, and need to know what to buy. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm going to drop my boat at pennsville ramp. Does anyone know of a good place to catch crabs with-in a 45-1 hour cruise? There are a few commercial crabbers that place their pots around the nuke island, but I'm looking for a better spot. Any one with any info, please chime in. Mech:)

I just put the first coat of primer on my boat and was wondering if I wipe it down again with fiberglass & wax cleaner, will it soften the interlux epoxy primer and will I run into any troubles if I do? Any input is welcome, thanks
I was at the local marina the other day, and asked them a question about the trim/tilt oil they use in their evinrudes and yamaha's and they told me dextron 2 trans fluid. Is this advisable for my 84 merc., they said it's ok for older mercs. as well. What do you guys think?
I'm starting to spot prime all of the spots that were repaired with a two part epoxy primer. The first dumb question is the can says to mix both parts together, then wait 20 minutes. It does'nt say un-covered or covered, it explains everything else though. The second question: will I be able...
Are there any special tricks in spraying stripes over brightside paint? When I spray two different colors, the have a tendancy to bleed under the masking tape into the dry one. Is there any special tape for stripes? any tips are more than welcome
This little plastic piece holds up the 3/8 wood and cushion to the side of the boat in an open bow. This piece pushes into the back of the cushion, and the other end pushes into the fiberglass. PLEASE tel me what it's called, and where can I get about twenty five.
I'm going to paint my 84 Imperial, and need to find a paint I can use for under the water as well as above. The boat will be trailer, and not docked very long. I'm going to use a 2 part primer for the hull like interprotect 2000. If anyone knows of a paint I should use, please let me know...
After month's of sanding, filling, and fiberglassing I'm almost ready for paint. The boat is an open bow 17', that is sanded in spots through the gel coat, but not the entire boat. I will be spraying primer and topcoat and don't know how much to buy. I will be trailering it, so no anti-fouling...
I'm completely re-doing my boat from the hull up and have lots of aluminum/S.S. to clean. Presently, I'm using mothers, but has little effect on the oxidized parts. What is the best stuff on the market for my problem?
