How much is my Fastwin worth?

I am looking to sell my 1971 Fastwin 18 HP. It runs strong but idles poorly. It has a new main shaft in the trans, new water pump, new fuel pump. These were put in about 1 1/2 years ago. It also has a brand new Atwood 6 gallon fuel tank and fuel line with filter and comes with the service...

'71 Evinrude Fastwin 18 HP troubles

I have a old 18 HP Fastwin. It runs pretty good normally. Right now I am having a heck of a time starting the sucker as the twist grip kicks back clockwise every time I pull the starter rope. I pulled it apart and everything appeared to be okay. I cleaned the crud and grease off the friction...

    1969-1970 7.5 Thunderbolt

I haven't torn this apart yet for this issue. Last year I got this motor and re-built the carb, fuel pump, new water pump ETC. Motor ran fairly well, but the compression is low and power down. It starts right up though and I can live with it. Here's the problem. After my "shake down" run...

Mercury Trolling motor, what do I have?

I bought a Mercury trolling motor at a Church Bazaar for $10.00. The only number I have found is a serial number 6180095. This is a tiller type motor with a 2 blade prop. It looks old, but does not appear to have a lot of use on it. The outer wires to go to the batter are shot so I removed...

    7.5 hp old wires!

I have a 1969 7.5 motor with the Thunderbolt ignition on it the motor is new to me. It has obviously not been used much as stuff like the exhaust houseing was very clean. It runs like a Swiss watch. But after it's first lake run I notice a lot of the old brittle insulation from the ignition...

    Model 75 7.5 HP Question

I asked this same question here already today, but got no response. So I am now looking to folks with these little motors to get advice or an answer. I have a 1969 or possibly a 1970 Model 75 7.5 HP outboard. My question is, does the shift lever move to the front of the motor as in shift it...

    Stupid question.

1969 Model 75 7.5 hp motor. Which way does the shift lever move to propel the boat forward?? I have had tilted motors before and they all shifted in the direction you want to go. Forward on the lever, you go forward. Rearward on the lever, you go in reverse. I had my little motor at the lake...

    Educate me

I enjoy reading this stuff on here, but it sort of freaks me out as well. In the past I have only had a car topper type boat I could toss in the water just about anywhere. In the next year I am looking at either a v hull fish/ski type boat or a pontoon. What is the proper procedures to launch at...

    Confused!!

We have been looking at boats for a couple months now. We are hopeing to buy this winter or early spring. The idea of a Pontoon is vert appealing to us. Something in the 20' range with 90 hp or so to make it fun. Here's my question: Is there an independant website with reveiws and prices for...

    90 Opti-Max V 75 4 stroke?

I am looking at a new boat. I found 2 2009 Lowes aluminum 17.5' fishing boats which are equipped basically the same. One has the 75 hp 4 stroke and the other has the 90 hp 2 stroke Opti-max. Which would be the best way to go? Is the high tech 2 cycle gonna be a pain in the long run as far as...

    Thunderbolt or Lighting?

I have either a '69 or '70 model 75 7.5 HP motor. The middle digit on the tag can't be read. The number is 281?525 on the tag. Looks like both years were the same. Just recently I am seeing some of these motors with the Lighting ignition and some, like mine, with the Thunderbolt ignition...

    California registration question.

I have an appointment to register my new boat this afternoon. It's a 1970 12' fiberglass Sears Gamefisher I just bought. I really don't like going to the DMV so I want to make sure I already have all the paperwork filled out ahead of time. I have a bill of sale and the application for vessel...

    Far should I go?

I have an old 12' Sears gamefisher. The fiberglass hull has some minor damage to be repaired and a couple holes to be filled that the prior owner drilled. The prior owner "painted" this boat at some time in the past with resin. In some places the resin is over 1/4" thick, but for the most...

    Advice needed

I have an old Sears 12 foot fiberglass I will restore soon. The previous owner put down a heavy coat of resin at some point. I don't think it was gelcoat. Of course there was no prep work so much of it is just falling off. This layer of "whatever" is pretty thick, 1/8" or so. Is there any...

Stumpped on Magneto problem. "FIXED"! (Maybe)

1971 18 HP Evinrude. No fire to the bottom cylinder. I have new coils, points and condensers. Wires for the shut off switch are okay, no shorts. Still no spark to the lower cylinder. I removed the wires for the points, condensers, and shut off switch. With an ohm meter I checked...

    Is my exhaust too clean?

I just got a '69 Mercury 75 7.5 HP motor. I removed the lower end to install a new water pump and check and reseal the gear box. I find zero carbon build up. I think I have figured out the exhaust pathway, but that pathway is clean enough to eat off of. This should have over 40 years of build...

    Difference between 7.5 and 9.8?

And don't say 2 hp! I know with the old Johnson motors the only difference between a 9.8 and 15 is the carb. I have a old '69 7.5 and was wondering if it can be upgraded to the higher horsepower. There are many interchangeable parts between the two, I was just wondering what the difference is.

    Surfacing Cylinder Head

I have a '71 2 stroke Evinrude 18 HP 18012s with a warped head. I read where many folks re-surface these using a flat surface like a piece of thick glass and wet-dry sand paper. Do you suggest this or should I take it to a machine shop? How much would I be charged to have this done in a shop...
