Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

UPDATE - Took the pump apart and it was full of very thick slime. Everything was clogged. Cleaned with brushes, small screw drivers and carb cleaner. Also blew out the lines with carb cleaner. Flushed and then filled with synthetic 5w30 (had a gallon in my garage). Works perfectly now. Could...

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

Well I guess the problem was more than just the end caps. I removed all 4 hydraulic lines from the trim cylinders and ran the pump. Only a few partially milky ounces came out and and then nothing from any of the lines. ...and the reservoir is still full. Time for a new pump?

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

It is now in the down position after installing the new caps. Yes, the reservoir is full...even though quite a bit of fluid came out when I cracked the lines at the cylinders to reinstall the rams.

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

One of the original caps was frozen on the ram as you all suspected. I put the 2 new end caps in and I can hear the pump but now will not go up or down. New caps slid up and down fine before installation. Was I suppose to bleed the system somehow?

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

Mine had a crack in a bladder or something inside the pump that allowed fuel continue to flow after shutdown. If I let it sit 20-30 minutes, it would start right up.

Still chasing hard warm starting, 7.4 carbed

Is your fuel line from the pump to carb clear or see thru? I had this problem with a Merc 3.7 and when warm, the pump would continue to pump after I shut down, causing flooding condition. I tried multiple batteries to crank thru the flooding and worked ok. I finally noticed the continued fuel...

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

If I go with the complete end caps, are there any other seals I will need to replace while I have these open?

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

I got both sides apart. Doesn't look too tough to do the seal kit. I know, I know... I will order one tomorrow. Does anyone know of any good videos of this? I found a couple on Youtube, but they don't show the process too well.

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

Had an injury to may left arm a few years ago and working with small parts can sometimes be a problem. Can I buy new end caps with seals already in them?

Alpha One Gen 2 - Trim will only go a few inches down

I have a 2001 Sea Ray 180 with an Alpha One Gen 2 drive. I have had it in storage for a few years and just got it out yesterday. Trim will go all the way up but only a few inches down. When going down, the pump seems to keep running but the drive stops after only a few inches. Where should...

Looking good. Good luck! I did a 1986 ten years ago. It came out real nice. Wish I still had that boat.

Yes, manual says turn the tab so front is pointing towards direction that hard to turn. The back would go towards the easy side. Thanks!

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

Thanks! Looks like it came with a trim tab, but not there now. Boat is in a slip, so I will have the hull cleaner install one. I assume I turn it to the left to fix the problem I am having?

Boat Very Hard to Steer to the Right Under Power

1986 Bayliner 2560 with 5.7 Volvo Penta 260a, no power steering. When going slow I can turn wheel either way with almost zero effort. However, when I am under power, it is very hard to steer to the right (super easy to the left). Any suggestions for a fix, or is it just something I have to...
