Re: where to find control cables
UPDATE:
F_R got my new cable in the mail today. The ends on the C2 are definitely threaded just like the old cable (same #10-32 thread), but the cable-covering end (collar?) is not threaded like on the old cable, so I am not sure if the are the same, or if I...
Re: 1960's Flying Scott 60hp Awakening
Working on putting the new impeller in today. Can't seem to get the key to go in for the impeller. Not sure if anyone is familiar with these or knows a trick? I would nominate this for the worst design ever that is for sure.
I will take any...
Does anyone know what kind of grease is in the shift/throttle contol box on older (pre 60's) out boards? I have taken mine apart to inspect and cleaned it up, now I am going to reassemble it. Do they need grease in there or is that just someone being over cautious?
Thanks.
I'm looking for replacment control cables for a 1960 60hp Flying Scot McCulloch. Does anyone know where I might find some, or if I could potentially use another brand of cable?
Purchased a 1960's Flying Scott 60 hp motor this week. Looking to get her running. Did compression check on her She has the following:
Cylinder 1 (Top) 100psi
Cylinder 2 (Middle) 105psi
Cylinder 3 (Bottom) 105psi
I don't know what they should be, but they are in range of each other +-5psi...
Hi, I have a 60hp Flying Scott outboard that I am looking to identify and also locate a wiring diagram for (and manuals). I don't see any seriel numbers or model numbers on the motor. Where should I be looking for them? I see one plate that is blank but says 2979.
Also I would I need to...
I am looking to purchase a 1958 to1962 60hp Scott motor. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to find parts for these motors. The lower unit looks just like my 56 30hp Johnson.
Any additional info on these motors would be appreciated too.
Basically should i stay away or are they easy like my...
Hey guys. Would like some help. Looking at this motor to purchase. The gentleman says it's a 60hp Evinrude, but that is the only info he has on it as far as identifying it. He is going to get me the serial number, but it will be a couple weeks.
Anyone have a guess at the year? I think it...
I have a 1970 60hp johnson model number 60esl70D. I have been going through the electrical trying to get it the starter to engage, but I can't seem to get it too. The starter solenoid is working properly, the starter motor is working properly. I am not sure why when I turn the key it is not...
Quick question about a 1970ish Johnson 60hp. Can you get parts to convert these from short shaft to long shaft?
I have a '56 Johnson and I was able to get an extension piece, drive shaft, and various other pieces to make it a long shaft. Can this be done on these later model outboards too...
I am having a heck of a time getting my shifting rod connecter alignment right on my motor after taking the lower unit off for maintenance. I put it back on and align everything then when I shift through gears I get reverse & neutral or neutral & forward. I can't get all three gears without...
Replacing the seals on my lower unit on my 1956 Johnson 30hp.
Does anyone know how hard you have to hit the Shift Rod Bushing to get it out? I am afraid I am going to break something!
Re: 1956 Johnson 30hp Motor Jumps When running.
Well have water in the Lower Unit Oil so I decided to tear it apart regardless (figured resealing it was worth it) to see what the clutch dog looked like. Here are some photos, honestly I think it looks fine to really good. What do you guys...
Need help yet again. When running in forward, neutral or reverse the motor jumps or thuds. At first we thought it was because the motor wasn't locked down (mechanism was broke), so I fixed that and didn't seem to have any problems with it for a while. It is back to jumping/thudding again. It...
Having trouble getting my starter solenoid wired. I feel stupid asking, but I have read a bunch of posts and I just really don't understand how to wire this thing.
First off I got the following starter solenoid (part #SW622 ). I have wired it per the the attached wiring diagram, however, I...
First off thanks to everyone for past help. Got my non-running motor running, on the boat, and took a couple trips yesterday up the river and back! She runs solid never stalling or sputtering.
I was wondering if anyone had any idea what I should expect for performance from my motor. I...
Wife thought she would take the boat out for a spin this evening when she got home. She does have more boating experience then me, but not much experience with our new lift. Woops!
Thankfully the motor stayed above water! She was able to use the lift itself to keep the boat from sinking...
I am looking for an extension kit for my '56 30hp Johnson (RDE18C) to make it a long shaft. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to look. Parts on marineengine.com are close to $150. Just wondering if I can get it cheaper anywhere else plus they don't carry the drive shaft. I have also...
