    Sold my Jet.

Yesterday a local couple bought my Jet. I hope they spend some time here like I did and enjoy the company and expertise you all have. I will lurk once in a while just to see what you all are up to. Thanks! It was a good run. :grumpy::)

    Crack in SC boat part

Too good a boat joke not to pass on. :D A Letter to the Men's Helpline: Hi Bob, I really need your advice on a serious problem: I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs: if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs...

Tools I used on my SC restore

DRILL PRESS: A tall upright machine useful for suddenly snatching flat metal bar stock out of your hands so that it smacks you in the chest and flings your beer across the room, denting the freshly-painted project which you had carefully set in the corner where nothing could get to it. WIRE...

    They're everywhere, They're everywhere...

My wife and I recently rented a small house on the Mad River just north of Eureka, CA for a vacation. The second day there I noticed the stern of a small boat poking out from under a nice blackberry bush next to the driveway and said to myself "That looks awfully familiar." Guess what. The...

Merc 400 EL, 1961, water leak?

I have water spritzing out of the top of the middle section of my motor. Is this normal or is it something clogged or broken seal, what? Here is a link to a short video. Click on "Water leak?" http://s860.photobucket.com/albums/ab164/bananabert/Boat/ Thanks, Albert

SC SS sighted doing 80 mph

Heading north on I 65 between Montgomery and Birmingham this SS was sighted doing 80. Too fast for me to keep up, lucky to get shot. I knew as soon as I saw it in the side mirror it was an SC. Major work on transom, built up to top of gunnels with just a 35 long shaft hooked up. I don't think...

    3 necessities for boat rewiring

First a flat belly, at least flatter than mine; my tools roll off it. Second a good sense of touch; when the tools roll off you will be trying to feel for the crimper. Third and most important a sense of humor. Wiring is simple, a circular circuit interrupted by a switch and a fuse...

    Weird motor mounting?

Move thread if necessary but seems like a non technical motor question. Where to start? My Merc 400 is/was mounted on my 20" unusual transom height Starcraft Jet with a wood spacer. Here is a detail. The wood spacer holds the motor up so the bottom bolts meet wood at the bottom of the internal...

    Odd size Starcraft Pop Rivets?

I have begun to put back some original aluminum parts and have encountered an anomaly. The 1/8 rivets are too small and the 3/16 are too big (dia). The first couple I encountered I re drilled to 3/16 but now I am finding it more and more. Anybody else encounter this? Did SC use a size my Ace...

    Mystery block

I have a block of synthetic material (inboard) through which the screws that attach my speed sensor protrude. I cannot determine if it is some sort of insulating material or just an unnecessary spacer. Anybody have any clue? Thanks, Albert

    Not a Starcraft in sight.

I went to the Nashville TN boat show Saturday and not a single Starcraft was on display. And I wore my Starcraft Marine hat. Glassers, pontoons and a few bass boats. Went mostly looking for aftermarket items like a bimini top. Little or no booths by such vendors. Oh well.
