Chrysler 318 bellhousing for Volvo 270

Bondo, you are correct. I just found the correct flywheel cover/ bell housing yesterday. It mates right up so I'm good! I even got the flywheel. Still need to source a starter but I'm sure those exist on fleabay.

Chrysler 318 bellhousing for Volvo 270

Well, that old thread was heading a different direction. I'm set on the 318 and I found a Volvo 270 so the only choice is the proper bell housing I guess. Maybe a trip north to the boat salvage places in Stockton. I'm sure they will have what I need.

Chrysler 318 bellhousing for Volvo 270

OK, been off the site here since about 2011 because my job was so demanding. Finally back around to working my project. I have a brand new from the rebuild shop, Chrysler 318 and all the gear to put back in a boat. I also have a complete Volvo 270 that was married to a Chevy engine. The...

    Stuck Prop cone on 280 outdrive . . .

OK, so I'm trying to remove the prop on my 280 outdrive and I can't get the prop cone to come off. Does anybody know if it is right hand or left hand threads? If the outdrive is already removed from the boat, how do I hold the prop still while I try to remove the cone? I don't want to ruin...

Replace on add on to transom . . .

I'm working on a 1962 Glasspar Ventura; a 21' Cabin cruiser and I'm considering what to do with the transom. It was originally an outboard but I'm converting it to an I/O. The transom seems real strong and does not have any rot visibly showing. The only problems I see is the plywood is slightly...

    Mercruiser 228 Reliability ????

Hey gang, I have the opportunity to pickup a boat with a Mercruiser 228 which as far as I can tell is the GM 305. Is this a reliable setup? It seemed to run good and quiet, just don't find much information about it so I'm concerned that it was not a popular model of Merc. Thanks, Michael

    New install of 165hp 6 Mercruiser . . .

OK, so I've finished pulling the twin 165hp Mercruisers from this 1977 26' Fiberform. Glad I did not decide to restore this Fiberform as it appears to have been built with a chopper gun. I'm going to install one of the motors in my 1962 21' Glasspar Ventura but I need to see layout plans for...

    4 barrel carb on '1977 Mercruiser 165

OK, forgive me if this is a stupid question, I just don't know the answer. I picked up a 1977 26' Fiberform with twin Mercruiser 165's that have less than 200 hrs and were covered up by an upper deck their whole life. As I'm stripping down the engine for cleanup, I notice that it has a 2 bbl...

    Chrysler 318 with Merc outdrive????

OK, I have a Mercruiser 165 . . . yes, the old straight 6 job. It came out of a 1977 26' Fiberform. I was given a freshly rebuilt Chrysler 318 Marine Motor, V8. Is it possible to mate the 318 to the Mercruiser outdrive? Can the outdrive handle the V8? I would really like to do this conversion...
