    Hull cleaning

Neighbors use "Lysol rust and stain remover" for toilet bowls. Squirt it on, use a soft scrubber like used to get bugs off your windshield, to smear it around. The crud just melts off within minutes. I have used it on my painted aluminum hull on some really tough stains and it worked great...

    Boat Cover

If you are going to trailer with the cover on, then get a custom made cover....costly yes, but they will last far longer. Already made over the counter covers are great if not towing, but the towing does create excessive wear and tear on a cover so fit becomes critical !

Best way to fasten bow rails?

When I mounted my tree kickers in my side x side, I used rivnuts and coated the outside with " goop". After it dried they have never come loose even removing the kick bars for cleaning. Mounted them in 2019 and still solid.

Late 70's to Late 80's - Worth shopping for?

You will need to look far and wide, but they are out there. There are some nice used motors if your willing to shop hard, drive long distances, be ready to buy when one shows up. Might have to buy a donor bought to get an engine. Drove 200 more less each way when I bought my like new old boat...

    1986 Mercury 9.8 110 outboard

If the plugs are dry, the carb is not letting fuel in, you probably have a blockage that you missed, or compression is low enough to not draw the fuel in.

    1986 Mercury 9.8 110 outboard

If compression is good, then do a rebuild on the carb with a factory rebuild kit as it will give you all the specs for setting it up. Just cleaning rarely works in my experience, you need those new seats and gaskets. Also a thorough take down to clean all those tiny passages. If compression is...

    1996 Merc. 40hp 2 stroke

My first thought is the battery holding 12.6 v or above ? Sounds like reservoir nay not be full, air lock, or pump going bad.

My 1992 Sylvan has those same hatches and they are still going strong. An occasional wipe with a plastic restoring product and they still look like new.

Thinking about selling my 90hp 1986 Mercury inline 6

Carb issues are carb issues, whether two or four stroke makes no difference, other than four strokes are much more difficult ( expensive) to work on. Carb issues can be easily stopped by using good fuel and add an additive. My 1992 has never had the carbs touched other than new fuel hoses and...

Need your opinion on boat floor

They " were" thoroughly encased in fiberglass.....fiberglass is not water proof, only the gel coat is, this is why drilling test holes is needed to test for wet wood. Start drilling as close to the bottom as possible, if dry wood chips come out, then seal that hole and try another. In my 60...

    Killing time

When we moved out into the country, NY wife did not like the idea of shooting/ trapping the feral cats. We also have lots of cute bunnies.. One day we stumbled across a rabbit caught in a fence and watched two feral cats eating the rabbit alive. Not really eating it for food but just ripping...
