    Marine Insurance

My boat ins has stayed pretty level over the years, can't say that for home and auto....even with a good driving record, retired so low yearly mileage, ours has gone up about 30% in the past two years.

    Kicker on a CC?

I have a small kicker on every boat I have had in my 60 yrs of boating except for my canoe, kayak, and Jon boat ! Everything I take onto big water has had a kicker. Cost savings....no way, but the piece of mind is worth it. On my 22' cuddy, my 9.9 two stroke would push me about 12 mph, plenty...

    Marine Insurance

I look at coverage for accidents and EPA fines if any would occur. In my 60 yrs of boating I have never had to be towed. I don't own large cruisers or yachts, so I make my own plans in case of power loss. I always carry a backup power source for that just in case, and yes I have had to use it...

I got the impression the poster was looking at a " really nice" looking boat, without digging deeper into the hull and engine. 25 yr old glass boats can look pretty but be a disaster deep down within. Many new boaters get hooked on appearance and don't look deep into costs as you well know...

Me thinks you typed that backwards...short shaft on a tall transom Mabey ?? He needs to get that lower cav plate closer to the bottom of the hull.

You could easily spend 10K in getting that boat fixed up if it has hidden damage and I am not counting the engine !!

    Marine Insurance

I have an independent agent that represents a number of different companies and also shops and compares rates with companies he doesn't represent. There have been times he sent me to outside ins companies due to better rates. I do know, here in Ohio, we have had some good increases. I sold my...

    Marine Insurance

We have had Progressive in the past,v great for auto and boat and SxS toys, but horrible for their home coverage. Had to sue them to get coverage after a tornado took our roof off. Having dealt with insurance companies for close to 60 years, all I can say is....read the fine print ! Make sure...

    Gun Range Vid sort of

I have been told a special eye piece is needed to use a camera on a spotting scope. My 80x Burris is also very touchy and sensitive to vibration, just the nature of hi magnification....

    Marine Insurance

Ins companies are going thru an adjustment period. Some have not made their adjustments yet. Timing can be everything ! Also check carefully for recovery and EPA fines as some ins co. don't cover those costs !! Damage is one thing, but when a boat sinks and needs removed or fuel leaks out...

I often use a cable tie around the pos and neg group of wires so they don't get mixed up.

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

Add an extra day for unknowns... No matter what I do, I have unseen issues, so I always add an extra day !!

First startup for the season and then died

Wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get excess water at your fuel station. Many stations are to busy to check their tanks and change their filters !! Where you buy your fuel can make a " big" difference !! Get some fuel cans and pump out your tank and check the contents. Once you remove the...

    Water in fuel

Good idea, I had some old solder, so wrapped a few wraps around the end of the line and it seems to keep it low in the tank. When I get all I can out, add another gallon and slosh it around then suck that out. So far so good...
