    2008 BF75 alarm at WOT

It looks like the problem was loose pieces of scale on the stats. I got the boat last year, installed a new impeller and descaled the cooling system with a recirculating pump and marine descale. I guess some pieces broke free and got caught up in the stats. I did lower the oil level as well...

    2008 BF75 alarm at WOT

Hello all, I have a 2008 bf 75 fuel injected. I was out this morning crabbing and on the way back in the alarm sounded, the engine lost power and conked out, was running about 5000 rpm’s. Shut it down and fired her back up, no alarm and cruised back to the ramp at 4000 rpm’s with no issues...

Sanding fiberglass in preparation for paint

This is a bench I’m working on for my Chawk. I’ll be fairing with Totalfair. Do I need to sand the glass smooth before fairing ( no shiny spots) Thanks

    Curing unwaxed poly resin

Thanks for the reply, as you can see, I have a lot of patches, figured it would be easier to slap some paint on them, then bagging them all. I will pick up some pva, next time I pick up FG supply’s. Thanks again

    Curing unwaxed poly resin

I’m glassing over a bunch of holes in my top cap. I plan on sanding down everything, to re gelcoat and non skid. Can I use any paint to cover and cut off the oxygen to the glass, for a full cure? Again, it will all be sanded off, faired and gelcoated. Thanks

    Aluminum gas tank question

Us a 1/4” drill bit, and drill a few test holes. If the wood comes out dry and yellowish, your good, fill with PB. If it’s black and wet, break out the sawzall and grinder

How to do a scarf joint properly?

This is a factory scarf joint on a 1990 Chawk 18,two 3/4” pieces of plywood (not even laminated together) any recommendation on how to do it properly? It’s an 8’ straight run from transom to midship, then angles towards the bow.

    Bedding the stringers

Would I add wax to the polyester used for the fillets, let cure, then sand in prep for the epoxy, or would the epoxy still bond to laminating resin?

    Bedding the stringers

Thanks 88 Capri, thanks for the input. My stringers only have a layer or two of CSM,in some areas none. I’ll be using 1708, so should be much better than factory. I know you can go over poly with epoxy, but not vise versa, so I should be good ( my famous last words, lol)

    Bedding the stringers

New transom is in, now on to the stringers. Is it ok to bed and fillet the stringers with polyester PB, then tab and wrap with epoxy? I have enough epoxy to tab/ wrap, didn’t want to buy any more if I can help it. Doing the sole in poly, so I have that on hand. Also, what material should I use...

Question on Tabbing in the transom

Doing good, thanks for asking. Thanks for the run down, yeah, everyone seems to have a different approach when doing a transom. No need to worry, no wood in the transom, all coosa, but I will pre coat the hole with epoxy before installing the drain tube. Thanks again

Question on Tabbing in the transom

Installed two 3/4” Coosa boards with a layer of 1708 in between. Should I do the tabbing first then lay a piece of 1708 to cover the transom? As far as tabbing goes, is a 6” piece then a 10” sound good? Thanks

Completely agree with you. The original stingers are all 3/4 ply sistered together.

    1990 C-Hawk 18 rebuild

I was reading through another rebuild thread ( same boat as mine) and he did them all in 3/4”. I like your thinking though.

    1990 C-Hawk 18 rebuild

The 3 stringers in the center are double 3/4”, the outer ones are 3/4”. Can I make the 3 center ones 3/4, or should I stay with the original thickness? I plan on changing the layout of the stringers, by removing that dog leg, and having the 3 center ones, straight from bow to stern. From P to...
