Jetski Engine and Propulsion Installed in My 14 FT Jonboat

I bought a jetski for $75 no title. I have been considering the idea of installing the engine and propulsion system in my 14 foot aluminum jon boat. If it can be done I could get my jon boat in shallow spots like the flats. What do you guys think? I know sealing the "thru hull" areas on an...

    Purpose of a Bilge Box

Is the only purpose of a bilge box to provide a way for the keel stringer to "split around" the bilge pump and contact the transom so that the transom pushes against all the stringers? Or does it somehow aid in the draining process?

Why Isnt 1 Layer Of Mat And Roven Enough?

Why isnt one layer of mat and one layer of roven enough on stringers? The boat is a fiberglass 20 footer with laminated 1/2 plywood to make 1" thick stringers, 3 stringers, one in the middle 14" at highest point and one on each side 8" at highest point.

Garlick Transom Fitting Not Long Enough For Transom

I glassed in a new transom in my fiberglass hull. The old screw in plug type drain fitting is part of the reason my old transom rotted out. The transom is 1 1/2 inches thick. The old drain assembly only went about 1/2 inch through the transom so water penetrated the wood. I am thinking most...

Old Stringers Are Out-is The Hull Twisted

I know alot of you guys are replacing one stringer at a time but I cut all of them out to have more room to work. Now my question is how can you tell the hull is not warped or twisted before I put the new stringers in ? Has anyone ever did a stringer job and found out the hull was warped after...

No Mat - Just Roven and Poly Resin On Stringers

I know it is recommended that when using poly resin a layer of mat be used first then a layer of woven roven. I think it was said that the mat makes a "resin rich first layer" for the roven to stick to. Why cant roven be used alone? Poly resin is so sticky I cant imagine adhesion being a problem?

    New Age Grinding Wheel?

I was looking at the grinding wheels at Walmart and they have a new design out. It has what looks like little squares of hard 60 grit sand paper on it arranged in a stair-step fashion. Has anyone tried one of these on grinding out old fiberglass on the hull?

Transom Drain Not Going All The Way Through Transom

I just glassed in my new transom 2 sheets of 3/4 ply 1 1/2 thick. The drains I am looking at, the kind with the screw in plug, do not go all the way through the transom. The old one I took out was only 3/4 inch long which is why my transom rotted out at the bottom. I found one at boaters...

Using Mat In Sections On Transom

If I use two different sheets of mat, like scraps I had left over, to put on my transom will I loose strength? I was thinking the mat in the resin kind of works just like reinforcing wire in concrete allowing it to flex without cracking?
