    Johnson QD 17 water pump

Finally got around to taking the bottom end apart to look for said clip! Nowhere to be found! Probably why the guy sold it to me in the first place for cheap! Will order all that’s needed, including the seals as quite a bit of water was in the gears! I’ll keep you posted!

    Johnson QD 17 water pump

Thought it could be something like that! Haven’t taken anything else apart but will give that a shot tomorrow! Guess I’ll be ordering a bunch of parts! Thanks!

    Johnson QD 17 water pump

Needed to replace the impeller and plate! Went smoothly but after assembly, it still wouldn’t pump water! Turns out that the shaft drops too far down into the lower gear causing the pin/keyway to ride along the top of the plate, thus disengaging itself from the impeller! Is there a clip...

    150 hp carbs

Anyone know if carbs off of a 1984 Johnson GT 150 would fit/work on a 1976 Evinrude 200hp?? Maybe need different jets? Thanks

    Choke to solenoid primer changeover

I have a ‘76 evinrude 200hp with choke! Can this be changed over to a primer solenoid setup? And if so, what would need to be done? Different carbs or maybe just remove the choke plates from the current carbs? And of course, primer solenoid. Anything else! Why did JOHNSON/Evinrude change...

    Primer solenoid

Can certainty retest the compression, but what should decent compression be?

    Primer solenoid

I have spark on all 6, but can’t say it jumps 3/8” gap! Compression is 92/93 on all 6 cylinders. I think that is low but have no idea what it should be other than within 10lbs of each other. And no, have not checked for a sheared flywheel key.

    Primer solenoid

I will push the key in when I get the boat out and start it in another month! Don’t think there is anything wrong with the starter as between it and the batteries, the motor turns over quickly and will start easily when the valve is in manual mode! It just runs very rough and dies when the red...

    Primer solenoid

I don’t believe I took the primer apart to check the filter or not, but will do that! Thanks!

    Primer solenoid

Ok, you answered my question that it is mistakenly called a primer choke by some! Thanks for that! So, motor ran good but then last year, it was awful hard to start! Would flip the red valve out and she would start but run irradically, then stall. Replaced that front section but still ran...

    Primer solenoid

I have a 1982 evinrude 150 which may need a primer solenoid. Question is, I see some of these are called a primer choke solenoid! They look the same, but are the primer solenoid and primer CHOKE solenoid the same animal?

    Choke solenoid or primer solenoid

A lot of the research I’ve done said that particular motor was a notoriously hard starter! New plugs, wire, coils, filters, but never rebuilt the carbs which I was afraid to tackle! Could do it now, and then change over to the primer setup if all I’d have to do is get the primer solenoid and...

    Choke solenoid or primer solenoid

Have a very hard starting 1976 evinrude and an easier starting 1982 evinrude 150 with primer solenoid! What’s the difference between a primer solenoid and choke solenoid and, could you remove the choke plates on the 1976 and install a primer solenoid? Am I making sense?

    Shifting very difficult

Evidently, several problems have been uncovered! First, cleaned up the shift interupter connection to the coil! That eliminated the hard/ stuck shift problem! However, now the engine would die when going from reverse to neutral! Also, could not get rpm’s above 2800. Pulled wires off plugs...

    Shifting very difficult

Not saying this caused the problem, I just don’t know, but the end of April, I had a former marine mechanic replace the gimble bearing, bellows and lower shift cable! Supposedly, all oem!

    Shifting very difficult

Gets stuck in neutral when the boat is in the water and engine running. Can shift to forward/reverse but gets stuck going back thru neutral. Shut engine off or wait a bit when running and it might release after hearing a snap/pop! When engine off or running on muffs, it shifts as it should...

    Shifting very difficult

Ok, been awhile but here’s what’s new! The slip at the outdrive end of the lower shift cable has been eliminated! Let’s call it pilot error! Replaced the water pump and installed the NEW intermediate shift shaft although it didn’t look any different than the old one! Got everything back...

    Shifting very difficult

The new shift shaft came in! Comparing the two, I see nothing wrong with the old one! As per the video, the black plastic end moves fore and aft 1/4” or so, but vary little if any movement at the opposite end! Everything on the upper shaft appears as I think it should! I’m going to put it...

    Shifting very difficult

The lower shift cable was supposedly replaced along with the bellows in late April! Boat went into the slip in June! My blunder may have been removing the outdrive and forgetting to place the shifter into forward! Don’t know if it bent the intermediate shift shaft as I can’t see any deformity...

    Shifting very difficult

Hopefully the video uploaded! Shows the fore and aft movement of the lower shift cable! If this is too much, is it adjustable? What’s the purpose of the threaded end with the allen hole and wire retainer?
