When I connect my battery the starter engauges. I disconnected the key switch and it still does it. Anything I need to look for besides a short in the wiring harness?

I am trying to find out the year of my mariner 115. The serial number on the plate on the outside is hard to read but appears to be 0B342722. If that isn't correct is there someplace else it will be?
I just picked up a 1986 astroglass 154v with a 115hp Mariner. The person I purchased it from did not know the year of the motor. Is it on the motor somewhere?
