    1969 merc lower unit what years are compatible?

    i have a 1969 20hp with a bad gear housing. I think ive found one on ebay. the guy says its from 70s or early eighties. sent him an email question about it but he didnt respond. i hate to miss out on it cuz their hard to find.Can anyone tell me what years are compatible? Thx

    20 hp merc drive shaft removal

    how do i get the drive shaft out ? theres a nut over the gear in the lower unit gear case does that have to come off ? i tried to get it off but a socket wont get on it, and an open end wrench barely fits on it and just keeps slipping off . is there a special tool? Any ideas?
